I gave up smoking years ago.
Started when I was 13 (try to look like a bad boy), I stopped at age of 16 but started again when I got 20, smoked untill I got 30 (was sick for 4 days, only got out of bed to drink or go to the toilet), then I realized I hadn't smoked for 4 days, saw my latest sigaret half smoked in the ashtray, it looked realy ugly. That was my trigger to never start again.

Locked the gun & now I can go outside without losing my temper.

if the reverse is true, I would take Ninja's advice and start eating.

You'll need to get yourself a set of plus size shellsuits. They'll be
the only clothes you can wear comfortably after three months.

drinking and gambling with friends and no smokes

I got 6 ciggies left between now and 18:00 when the bet starts, then potentially 3 months of pain

, And when it's over.... I'm starting right back up again

If you can give it up (really give it up, no cheating out behind the back of the shed) for three months you can give it up permanently. I suspect the real issue is that you don't want to. As an ex-smoker myself, I'm convinced that the real problem with stopping is not the physical addiction, but the psychological one.

I assume Mrs E knows this happening, so since she'll have to deal with many weeks of your nicotine-deprived surliness, put aside another $1K as a reward for her in some form - travel, jewelry, whatever she prefers - and every time you feel the urge she'll be there to stifle it.
