Oh it's not all bad -thanks to the Internet, I've learnt that Africa is swimming in money-millions of it, and generous spirited people are only to happy to give some to me-for a trifling consideration and a small amount of administrative assistance. I'm delighted to learn this-as of course obviously there is no need for me to donate to charities there anymore-it would just make the problem worse, wouldn't it...?

It works the other way as well if your a seller https://www.mirror.co.uk/money/ebay-...-fraud-5552823 I thought about selling the bulk of my surplus to requirement CDs & books on ebay but in the end decided it wasnt worth the potential extra money or time. Only thing i ever bought on ebay was a beer can for a UK collector The seller was a business that could be found in the real world - 100% OK Its the personal sellers where you have to trust the reputation As i saw on a chrome add-on yesterday - a bot under hundreds of different user names had gone through it and left the same message giving it 5 stars Trust - what trust The real secret is to have a reasonable price in mind be you seller or buyer Anything outside that is asking for it A full 10 season box set for 40 what evers that retails for 200 is asking for trouble scam watch - i'm sure all countries have these sites yet people keep falling for some pretty obvious scams https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/types-o...shopping-scams |

BT!!!!
In a poor area for internet. Surrounding areas on fibre, but not our village, no demand apparantly. Every year, I ring them, tell them I want to cancel due to price, they sort me a good deal out, I ask about fibre, they say it`s never going to happen, so I carry on with them and they hit me with a two year contract. No problem, this is as good as it gets. Then, a couple of months ago, Virgin start digging the road up and lay fibre which is now live. I`m stuck with BT`s 10Mb, my fault, suck it up and wait for contract to end. Suddenly, I get the flyer through the door announcing BT fibre, upgrade now at a great price. Bingo. Go to the website. Yep, 77Mb is available to my postcode and telephone number, with no activation fee etc. I go for it, get to checkout and Boom, sorry fibre is not available to you. Ring them up and it`s a chuffing farce, yes it is, oh hang on, no it isn`t, then a definate, no it isn`t and it probably never will. Why F@**!@ing advertise that it is!!. So stuck with them till March next year till I can cancel and get Virgin. |

In fact Virgin may be able to use you as a poster boy for the rest of your village. May not work but definitely worth a try. |

To give you some idea of how foolish and wasteful some cable and internet providers are ... Mine for example quite periodically sends me ad flyers for lower rate package deals which includes upgrading to 160 Mbs. But then at the bottom of the flyer it states "Not for existing customers"! Then WTF are you sending them to me for? I'm sure that I'm not the only existing customer being sent and receiving them.
Surely they must have the resources to weed out and eliminate sending such ad mailings to existing customers. That would lessen the number of flyers needed and reduce their printing costs, and the savings could then be directed and passed onto their customers, if they are truly sincere about lowing rates to their customers. Its no wonder internet and cable costs (for the garbage and tons of commercials we're getting) are through the roof!

The world over it would seem broadband internet is a problem riddled product. I think I've been lucky with my IP. Rang and complained to them about excessively slow speeds and they reduced my plan by ten dollars a month and bumped me up to 44mps. More than enough for my needs and no lock-in contract. Like bloke57 says, it can pay to be proactive.

I totally agree with Maxjoker about Amazon and really hate the way Chinese sellers go out of their way to appear based in the UK. I'd add that trying to get hold of Amazon Customer Services outside the return period can be a real challenge and they pretty much seem able to stick their fingers up to UK/EU consumer law.

The cable TV and Internet companies are perennially ranked among the most hated companies in The U.S. by their customers. Their employees don't like them much either, with only the unfortunates still working at some failing retail outfits hating their jobs more.
Amazon is very good in the U.S. I have not dealt much with eBay, but found I could usually find better deals elsewhere. Mainly I have used eBay to offload excess stuff. Here in the U.S. both companies keep a close watch on sellers. The type of businesses dependent on those marketplaces can't afford to get barred or they will be looking for real jobs immediately. Amazon has been tightening up its review process so only verified customers are allowed to rate. It definitely pays to check out the ratings and see if they are bogus for good or ill. |
