The curious thing with light sleep when your continually tossing and turning is you think your almost awake but your actually not
The most relevant tip is there is no one quick fix that fits all Anything that gets your mind TOO active ie TV - believe it or not is to be avoided I did a few things when I was stressed at work and could never get a good nights sleep 1. Stop drinking stimulants like caffeine by midday 2. Stop watching anything 2 hours before bed 3. Never exercise leading up to bed time 4. Never make Tea/Dinner your big meal of the day unless you want to feel like going to sleep early evening which will guarantee you'll be awake at 1/2am in the morning. 5. Stop over indulging in Alcohol come night time 6. Earplugs...amazing how effective they are if your a light sleeper and you have neighbours who think beeping their horn to say "women I'm home, open the garage door" at 11/12pm 5 days a week is OK. 6. Read a book till you start yawning. 7. Sleeping pills are an option i've never used but its there. I've got by on six hours sleep since my early twenties.
I was tired last night and retired early at 9pm and here I am on VEF six hours later. I don't start work until 05.30. I usually force myself to remain awake until bedtime to avoid this. It's always six hours. I'm a light sleeper which can be a nuisance. The slightest noise will rouse me, or even smells. Human voices on radio or TV are alright, but hearing them live will alert me. I'm not bothered by the sound of machines as long as I can identify them.

I am and always have been a night person ... I enjoy staying up late at night. Typically I only require 4-5 hours of sleep, and on most nights I'm not in bed until around 2 AM, unless I've had a hard work day and then maybe around midnight. If going to bed at 10-11 o'clock like most normal people do I would then be wide awake at around 3-4 AM.
I find that having a couple of late night cocktails/nightcaps a few hours before planning to retire helps in soothing and relaxing me. Of course after going a round in the sack with the girlfriend also usually proves to be a great relaxer and sleep inducer as well. If that alone fails to help me off to sleep, then lying there afterwards listening to my girl telling me boring things about her family which I could give a rat's ass about has me nodding off and out like a light in no time ... and I mean its sayonara! |

Sleep sex aka sexsomnia aka sexual behavior in sleep is a form of non-rapid eye movement (NREM) parasomnia. Sexsomnia (the term was coined by Dr. Colin Shapiro in 2003) causes people to engage in sexual acts while they are asleep, such as masturbation, fondling, sexual intercourse and actions that would be sexual assault or rape were the sufferer conscious. The proposed medical diagnosis is NREM Arousal Parasomnia – Sexual Behaviour in Sleep. It is considered by some to be distinct from sleepwalking but most experts consider it to be a variant of sleepwalking, as most who suffer sexsomnia also sleepwalk (ICSD 2) . There are often unpleasant consequences associated with sleep sex and it has been used as a criminal defense in rape cases.[1] Other negative effects include feelings of shame and embarrassment and also can cause relationship issue and stress |

The hours I had to keep while in the navy pretty much fucked up my ability to sleep on a normal schedule. Usually I have to try and nod off in a small window of opportunity between being exhausted enough to before I kick into my stay-up-for-days zombie stage. And with the spine wrecked as it is trying to sleep in a bed for more than six hours leads to being too stiff and sore to move around much at all when I wake up.
I usually need to sleep under a blanket or at least a sheet too. That sometimes leads into getting too hot and having a weird dream where I thrash around and nearly get into sleepwalking to get the covers off so I don't overheat, so it can be fairly dangerous to sleep with me unless you don't mind getting punched or kicked while you're dozing yourself. |

Lots of good tips guys I've taken sleeping tablets, but after a few weeks they stop working, and they are addictive. Tried loads of herbal sleepers too. Some are OK. One thing I got rid of was my radio/clock. I just kept looking at it.
Sometimes I just give in and get up. Usually end up on VEF
