Very true. Teaching is another career that is far less attractive than years ago so now there has to be incentives. When all the assessment started a close friend who had been a teacher and many thought would seek a headship couldn't get out fast enough - ' I went in to teaching to educate children, not to fill in forms ' .

Years ago, certainly pre 1948, unless their family could help people had to work and live as cheaply as possible save up for their training.
