The flipside is that if two cars are chasing each other in heavy traffic, there are always very convenient gaps between all the other cars! A twist on that was in the dreadful "War of the Worlds" remake with Tom Thumb. As a result of the alien stormclouds, all cars just stopped wherever they happened to be. Fortunately, they'd all managed to park neatly on the freeway leaving a nice clear path for our hero!

I too, dislike unrealistic "war movies." I know what you mean about using modern tanks, instead of Shermans, in WWII flicks. However, we have to look at the circumstances. For example; the movie "Patton" was made in 1970, and it portrayed several large-scale tank battles. The tanks used were modern, for the year 1970. Please remember that there were relatively few actual Sherman tanks still around in 1970, so available substitutes had to be used for the battle scenes.
You are certainly correct though, about proper tank tactics. Maybe the producers think that actual realism isn't exciting enough.

A couple of cliches that annoy me are:

1) That crap where a character (usually a cop) says "People who look to their left when thinking are a telling the truth and people who look up to their right are lying".

When I'm trying to remember things, I look all over the place. And surely, this has been repeated so many times that any bad people will rememeber this and look left, even when lying?

2) When a plotline includes peadophilia in some way, it is always mentioned that

"victims of it often become abusers themselves".

It must be so annoying and frustrating for actual victims of it to know that yet again they are being labelled as peadophiles. It must be hard enough to tell anyone that they were abused, without suspicion having been previously rammed into the minds of those they want to tell, by such films and tv dramas.

Typecasting of the most craven sort. Plus, Robert Stack already took that part.

Does any genre have more cliches than the Western?

Today is Alexis Smith's ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexis_Smith ) birthday so Turner Classic Movies is showing her films.

They just showed San Antonio, and at one point there's a gun fight. Well the loser takes a full on blast to the liver and instead of falling down, screaming in agony and dying he makes a face, clutches his side and WALKS AWAY. A few steps later he finally falls down and dies. Not a drop of blood to be seen or even an exit wound. Darn cowboys were tough.

Yep- Exhibit A: Clint Eastwood in 'Where Eagles Dare'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ft7jw...eature=related

Now according to Wikipedia, an MP40 has a rate of fire of 550 rounds per minute - and takes a 32 round mag. You do the maths....and how often, apart possibly from Clint early in the scene- do you see anyone stop to change a magazine?
Incidentally, the same Wiki article says the MP40 was only usually issued to paratroops and platoon/squad leaders, rather than the entire Wehrmacht as the film seems to suggest....

Yes, which reminds me of the next cliche, not used as much nowadays, but when a character has been fatally wounded but his mate always gets to him in time to hear him say a few last important words before head drops to indicate he has passed away.

MY GOD! Why not a porno western?

You could shoot someone, they take their sweet time dying but KEEP their hard on. Pure gold.

Now I'll get this movie made, earn a fortune and deny you were the inspiration.
A win/win situation!

What colour Bentley should I buy?
