Old Movie Locations
I always like watching old ( and new movies) where I recognise a less than obvious location. A favourite movie of mine is 'Wrong Arm of the Law' a 1962 British comedy with Peter Sellars and a host of great character actors of the day. Much of it was shot in obscure west London locations with which I'm familiar, including a security van heist outside a pub in a quiet backstreet. I doubt if there is another VEF'er here who went to The Lord Hill in Uxbridge during its short time as a strip pub around 2007, but there it is in the background. My pleasure is all the greater for it being a pub I used to take a stripper friend for her gigs.
Anybody have a movie location memory with a sexual/porn/knee trembler connection? The pictures are of the pub in the film with a disconsolate Tutte Lemkov and Lionel Jeffries waiting for the van to arrive. |

I live near San Francisco, so there are a lot of scenes in various productions that are shot in this area. There was one porn film that had a scene involving some guy in a car that was shot about half-a-dozen blocks from where I live currently. (Its not recognizable anymore, there's been some redevelopment in the ~20 years since that was shot.) And much of American Graffiti was shot on Fourth Street, the main business street in the city I live in.

A lot of the "Confessions of....." series, i.e. Confessions of a Driving Instructor were filmed in or around Boreham Wood in Hertfordshire, which was the real location of the "Elstree" Film Studios. Likewise much of the early episodes of the Avengers, were filmed there.

The climactic race scene was filmed on Frates Road, which I drove by for 2½ years when I commuted out that way, but I didn't find that out until many years later. I understood they filmed a lot of it in Petaluma IIRC.

I live in Las Vegas, and there are just too many to list. One thing that always gets me though, and I have seen it many times, and that is in a movie, someone will be driving past, say the Horseshoe Casino, which is downtown on Fremont St, and the next casino they will pass is something like Ceasars Palace, which is on the Strip some 7 miles from downtown, but they cut it together to make it look like it is a block away.
