From the security view point:

This so called suicide belt would have caused no reaction for several reasons. Firstly it contained no metallic object which would have reacted to a sensor. Secondly it contained no chemical or plastic explosive which again would not have reacted to sensor, or even the most sensitive tool available a dogs nose!Lastly there would have been no anomalies on the x ray, because it was basically a piece of cloth, so would not have shown up.

A personal viewpoint;

BLOODY IDIOTS!! Their publicity seeking, and the stupid editors who have printed this crap, have quite likely caused distress to many travelers, especially the more timid, and proved absolutely nothing. Perhaps the rules should change and we have the introduction of full strip searches on all flights. Instead of a pat down. Yeah that sounds good to me. I only fly on official aircraft!

Point of order re the photo or so-called selfie-if his hands are in his pockets how did could he possibly have taken the photo? It was actually taken by a stewardess according to the report.

I was in the process of thinking of buying some more NS&I shares(National Savings & Investment Bonds or Premium Bonds) but then I noticed that the rate is being cut again and the chances of winning considerably reduced - not that I've ever been close to winning the big stuff, so I have decided to save my money instead. It is bad enough that the smallest winning amount, £50 was reduced several years ago to £25, but this latest reduction just doesn't make it worth my or anyone else's while to get some more.

You are correct that we do have a ban on certain knives, but this is only on length and flick knives. There are few legitimate reasons to walk round the streets with a hunting or kitchen knife. Sad to say, we have some restrictions on what we can say, usually to protect the human rights of others, all to do with political correctness. Sadly our police have to act if they receive a complaint, they usually ask both parties to apologise, and that is it. Unfortunately we suffer this crap, to protect the freedom of others, and most of this crap comes from the European Union, which your President feels he has the right to take sides on. We hate that idea, and think he should mind his own business, but then we do have the right to say what we think, which has to do with the freedom of speech.

Again, the fact that you think some forms of restriction on freedom of speech acceptable is not germane. The fact that the state will prosecute people for exercising freedom of speech is.
