This is one from a few years ago that I was thinking about. So my better half had an irritating habit, namely, that she would often ignore me. I don't mean she would blank me on the street, I mean she was always reading something, sending texts etc, and it would take an age to cajole her into eating, or leaving the house, or whatever it might be.

So 4 or 5 times a day I'd repeatedly be saying to her "ok, can we leave now?" etc, and she wouldn't respond. Just, nothing. If I pushed her, she'd get irritated. Being a low-temperature kind of guy, this didn't bother me so much, and usually I'd just let it go, until one day.....

We'd agreed we're going to watch a movie. I sit down next to her, and she's on facebook. I say "ok, are we going to watch a movie then?", and she ignores me. I say it again. Nothing. So I pick up my laptop to check my email, and instantly she EXPLODES at me. She's waiting for me, she's ready, why am I ignoring her??

When I point out that she did this to me, routinely, and not only that, but she was doing the exact thing she was attacking me for, while she was attacking me for it, made no difference. Pointing out that while she was yelling at me she had her computer on her lap, with facebook open, didn't convince her that maybe her argument lacked cogency.

This is where you and I differ, and I'd get into trouble for it ..... While she's on Stalkbook, I'd have sent her an email and asked "Are we watching the movie soon"

This one happens quite frequently.

She: Do you like option 1 or 2 better?
HH: I think 2 is better.
She: But 1 has A, B and C.
HH: Yes but 2 has E, F and G. Which I think is a better choice.
She: Why don't you like A, B and C?
HH: I like A, B and C just fine. I just think that 2 is the better choice.

And so on and so on in her desperate attempt to make me agree to do option 1. This inevitably leads me to say:

HH: I'm sorry honey. I thought you asked for my opinion.

All of this boils down to the fact that she has already made her decision which is the better option. What she is seeking is my agreement, so that if option 1 turns out to be a bad choice, she can turn to me and say:

She: You thought it was the best choice too!

Big Grin It began as I dared make a "Joke" as we entered a car park with a car ahead of us

(My first sentence was spoken deliberately in an exaggerated manner with an American accent , plus I`d hidden my right hand in my coat sleeve and included many face grimaces along the lines of Luke finding out Vader is his Papa)

Me ~ No , No that can't true , it`ll be impossible for us to find a space now that other car will get it , nooooo !

Her ~ Don't be so negative

Me ~ I was joking , have you never seen the Empire Strikes Back ?

Her ~ I've always found a space here

Me ~ -Saying nothing while looking to my left wishing I was driving , over her head-

Her ~ See there is no space now. You talked it up with your negativity

Me ~ I talked it up ? . What negativity ? . I was joking

Her ~ This is the first time I've not found a space straight away

Me ~ - Silent -

We drive around again for ooooooo`another dreadful minute (Due to me opening my mouth clearly) then a car leaves and she parks

Me ~ -Silent -

Her ~ I just think it`s unhelpful to be as negative as you are that`s all

Me ~ When , tell me when I have ever been negative , even once in all the months you've known me ?!?

Her ~ Just now

Me ~ This time ? , you`re saying that this time here when I made a joke anybody else would have at least smiled at was me being as negative , as I am ???

Her ~ There have been other times

Me ~ When ?

Her ~ Let`s let it drop now

Me ~ Uh huh you haven't got another example have you and this time wasn't even me being negative either. Actually it`s pretty rich you daring to mention the N word

Her ~ - Silent -

We get out , I get the ticket , put it on the inside of the windscreen and we start walking side by side along the pavement

Her ~ Well aren't you going to hold my hand ?

I do.

Grudgingly

Thought I'd add this one in as it's fresh in the memory (ie the missus is still mid-strop as I type).

We're watching a film, and the wife trots out her familiar complaint/rant that "99%" of roles for women in movies are as prostitutes or overly sexualised in some way. I disagree, and point out how unfeminist I regard this argument to be, as it basically reduces women to helpless children who have to do things at the behest of men - if they're not happy about it, just make their own movies, women are half of the population. She continues to rant about how women over 50 don't get roles and blah blah, and I say what about Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep etc etc etc.

Wife then googles all this to try and "prove" it to me (how you empirically "prove" that 99% of roles in movies are 'vague ambiguous verb' I don't know, but there we go). She then rather smugly shows me an article about Meryl Streep......

Her - See? I told you, even your example Meryl Streep says that any roles for women over 50 are "grotesque on some level".

Me - But.......but........but.........wait a second, you're disproving YOUR OWN argument there. If "99%" of all roles for women in movies are too sexualised, but roles for women over 50 aren't sexualised at all but are "grotesque", that makes no sense. You're arguing that men are pigs for "forcing" all women to be sexual in movies, and they're also pigs for "forcing" some women to be grotesque in movies. Surely you can't have it both ways.

Her - That's different because *I'm female and even if I disprove my own argument, you're still in the wrong and I'm going to make your life miserable*

Sigh.

The Vatican just called, Rosestone-your canonization has been approved....you'll be added to the calendar as 'St Rosestone the Much Maligned'...........

PS...as regards the necessary miracle required for canonisation, the Vatican considers that putting up with her for this long is miracle enough.....

This just occurred to me and made me laugh (bitterly) and thought I'd post it, this wasn't me but a good mate of mine, at the time he was going out with one of those birds who either acts like her bf is the greatest human being alive, or she's kicking him and screaming and telling everyone he's probably gay (in other words, she's like most birds ).

So anyway, in a desperate attempt to get her to act sane when she's in the middle of what will probably be a three day sulk/tantrum, my mate goes on hunger strike. Like, literally, he says to her, I'm not eating anything until you start acting sane.

You know what? It actually worked too. He starved himself for a day, and she calmed down, actually listened to him, and behaved reasonably (for a bit).

That's a brilliant tactic

But wouldn't work if I tried it, she'd probably laugh her head off knowing I wouldn't last much more than an hour Which come to think of it get's her laughing so won't be angry

Thank You Mr R Stone I will be using that it the very near future, I do have 7 weeks off work plus it's Christmas time, I'll have plenty of time to have an argument

I was just messaging with him and asked him about this, and after the usual 'oh my god, she was mental', he also told me that with her, this once happened:

Her - oh babe, you've got a bruise on your arm, how did that happen?
Him - That was you, when you hit me the other day.
Her - *face like thunder, getting all arsey, because he had the temerity to answer her question truthfully*

He's laughing about it now, but I remember he definitely wasn't laughing much when he was with her
