I hate The Streets song Dry Your Eyes. It really is embarrasing and cringeworthy.

Don Maclean, "American Pie"

- "Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry"-- godawful

but not as godawaful as "Stairway to Heaven"
This song was a eight minute curse to anyone listening to album oriented rock stations in the 70s and 80s, seemingly obligatory for every station to play it twice a day

I liked Zep at the time, saw them in a deafening concert at the Garden, but every rock band seemed have the need for a wuss song, and this was their "Beth"

WAIT one cotton-pickin moment here; American Pie had words and images, c'mon, Chevy and I learned what a levee was (I was 12) and Stairway, what an acoustic intro and voice-man, high school dances...don't get me wrong, but these are classics, not to be abused each day, but over several months, they are echoes from the past, wonderous tunes to remember and reflect only for a moment.

There's no accounting for [no] taste, my friend  and I know what I loathe.

I'm aware that I'm in the minority here, but if I can piss off folk-country and 70's thunder rock fans with my ignorance, hey, can I be completely wrong?

I know that folks love "American Pie", but it just annoyed the heck out of me--- don't like the melody, and the lyric is grating, and where's the twang? I think its trying to be "authentic", but it sounds contrived to me . . . my kind of country is either more Bakersfield, more Austin, or more Muscle Shoals.
