Ignore lists

if we put someone on our ignore list, what precise implications does that have?

Does this mean that when we view a thread we would not see their posts? Or would we instead not be alerted if they posted anything in a thread we subscribe to? Or both? Or neither of the two? Or does it only relate to PMs?

Far as I know, it only relates to PM's.

it also 'closes' their posts in threads to your browser.

for instance, say i blocked 'georgieporgie', then though his posts would still be added to a thread, i only see a narrow gap where that post is, and a warning that 'georgieporgie' is on my blocked persons list. to be honest, i only blocked one person here ever, and it was more annoying to have to keep hitting the 'view post anyway' option to see what they'd posted; as despite our falling out in one thread, they often made good posts elsewhere; than to just go back and unblock them completely....

if you're having issues with another member, politely contact a mod and ask them to intervene or ask the other member not to contact you; and then keep to that yourself. it works for me.

Added you to my ignore list and it looks like this

As for subscriptions trial it with a thread where you know the same people post daily

Unlike changes to signatures which take time to update you can undo it in an instant

Same with me, I only blocked one person ever, and when I checked that member's profile out another time, I noticed that they had been banned from VEF since anyway.

No, I was thinking that some people, well, regularly post stuff that I'm not exactly desperate to see. In other words, I don't want my subscribed threads alerting me when that person posts. It's not that I don't want to see the posts once I do visit the thread.

Why does that matter? Because I'm subscribed to thousands of threads (literally, not as a figure of speech) and my "inbox" overflows with thread-updates. By targeting a few choice individuals whose numerous contributions are entirely missable I could keep this at bay. So, in a sense, I'm looking for an ignore-light list.

I played with it, and ...

...it hides the post, but alerts me anyway when the post is made. Bugger!

There are a couple of members posts here that if I see in the updates list have posted last, i don't bother checking the thread until another post has been made.....
