Given three different types of cricket balls are used in test cricket, surely the ICC should take the ball by the horns and designate a cricket ball for each format of the game.

Speculative: perhaps they think having competing (albeit only 2?) brands is better than assigned monopolies? /shrug/
Duopolies in other markets are seldom very competitive/satisfactory. Maybe more just past legacies than really "global" thinking, though? Hmm, take the UK out of Duke & what are you left with? Except it's Dukes. |

At the moment, unless its changed, India use an SG, England and the Windies use Dukes and everyone else uses a Kookaburra, so why not decide on one ball, rather than a variety, at least it brings some conformity to Test Cricket.

While mentioning weather conditions. After trying to watch some SA "ram-slam" cricket or whatever it's called, it is interesting to note the Durban Dolphins' record..."played" 8, with 5 washed-out....suits their name i spose.
And people moan about the English summer. I was wondering if the Oz players, or at least Smith, got a bonus from cricket Australia or Adelaide or TV companies and advertisers. By extending the 2nd test into the 5th day, when it could have been over in 3 days he certainly increased revenue. Last edited by judy84; December 7th, 2017 at 03:49 PM.. |

Test matches ending in 3 days only fuels the argument for 4-day tests.
Had that been the case then the follow-on would have been mandatory. |

Highly doubtful revenue even enters into any Captains mind The main reason he didnt enforce the follow on His injury plagued bowling attack and far far more Thats why the forgotten Mitchell Marsh might get a game at the WACA because of how the once fast & bouncy pitch has turned into a pacemans grave yard Mitchell Johnsons last game was on it when New Zealand amassed 5/620 from memory This article from yesterday covers almost every scenario during this test The Ashes: Steve Smith and Joe Root guilty only of leaving themselves open to hindsight By Geoff Lemon in Adelaide The funniest part of the whole sideshow was the level of hindsight genius from the sidelines. source http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-12-0...?section=sport Last edited by buttsie; December 7th, 2017 at 07:40 PM.. As for drop in pitches, the AFL have crowds of about 250,000 each week for the 27 odd weeks they play. So grounds like the MCG, Adelaide Oval ect... make good money from that. So it lead to drop in pitches here in Australia. |

It might be a good idea to have these two balls as indicated but the ICC - India Cricket Council - would never carry that.
