Last couple of Windoze Updates
Had problems with the last couple of updates, suddenly found my computer was shutting down all the time, eventually found the Power setting changed to ' Shut down after 30 minutes ' from Never
Been having problems searching from the ' Start menu ' when clicking ' See more results '. Getting ..... Windows cannot find 'search query = runner' Make sure you typed the name correctly then try again. Solution I found worked below In "Customize Start Menu" options (of Taskbar and Start Menu Properties), set 'Search other files and Libraries' selection to SEARCH WITHOUT PUBLIC FOLDERS. Then click OK = Apply = OK. WTF ..... freaking Microsoft leave my goddamn settings alone

My PC kept shutting down too, I'd leave it downloading a few files and come back to find it had shut down and I had lost my part downloaded files.
My settings had been changed to shut down after 20 minutes so I changed it back to never.... shysters !!!!!

A friend mentioned that her Windows Update settings had been changed from ' notify me ' to Auto.

Might be related to this
Windows 10 nagware patch KB 3035583 now marked 'important' on some PCs Many readers report that the Windows 7/8/8.1 update patch now installs by default through Automatic Update The patch itself is unchanged from when it was first released on March 27, according to the KB article. To date, we only have Microsoft's official description: "This update enables additional capabilities for Windows Update notifications when new updates are available to the user. It applies to a computer that is running Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)" -- disingenuous at best. http://www.infoworld.com/article/290...-win7-pcs.html I'd be reading this site before allowing notified updates to be installed They keep botching them like clock work and then there are the ones that exist for reasons only MS knows because the reasons are vague http://www.askwoody.com/category/mic...ches-security/ |

Amazing how Internet Explorer has gone from being such a great option to a putrid pile of turd that keeps crashing.
Microsoft need a good kick up the corporate ass.

I'm really annoyed that you can't turn off 'auto-update' any longer. I've lost the ability to make my own choice.
I had 14 updates yesterday and it took 30 minutes to install and re-set my laptop. Then there's always that slow period afterwards when everything feels as if the system is running through treacle. |

From what i've read over the years on askwoody . com it largely comes down to what software you have installed as to what problems you might encounter from updates
Thats why you should always wait until the patches have been tested for a period of time - cleared , fixed or removed before installing - their as bad as an infection when wrong. Outlook patches KB 2965295, KB 2965270 cause Calendar problems, sync freezes, lockouts April 16th, 2015 http://www.askwoody.com/category/mic...ches-security/ Interesting side point is from the time a windows threat is known it takes them an average of 10 days to come up with a solution - sometimes much longer Compared to linux which can be run on windows with more than a small amount of effort to install it - its usually same day The reason for the difference in time I suspect is MS business model of appeasing 3rd parties - 16,000+ other software programs windows has to be compatible with That leads me to think that relying soley on their updates to protect you is just silly Your behaviour is far more important Since I removed JRE (java runtime enviroment) - its removal largely effects business users because of obscure outdated software rather than personal users using javascript via browsers. Checked adobe flash / shock everyday i've had relatively few issues and thats on Windows XP with no updates I've had one issue of late and tdss killer removed it easily Zero day exploits from what i've read come 70% via Java - JRE / 20% via adobe - being complacent and going anywhere because your using the best security suite you can buy - problem with this thinking is malware is always ahead of solutions The examples of people nobbling their own security to gain access to sites beggars disbelief but thats what malware creators aim to do to infect you Heuristics on av comparatives say the best at finding / stopping new threats - are running at about 50% - random searching in the wild is asking for it Thats a 1 in 2 shot at getting infected if you visit the wrong site Being able to restore everything back to normal via offline back-ups when things go wrong is the only real security any of us has ie malware , hardware break down , etc http://www.askwoody.com/category/mic...ches-security/ Last edited by buttsie; April 17th, 2015 at 10:22 AM.. I've got several computers at work, all on Windows 7 and receiving updates every few days, and didn't experience any of these problems you guys are talking about. So I'm inclined to believe it's related to what buttsie says about other software you've got installed.
