pimpandhost - clarification

Hi Help Mods.

Can I have some clarification please?

The pimpandhost plugin / site - I thought that by supporting this plugin and site I was contributing financially to VEF by way of generating advertising revenue.

Is this correct?

My second point is there's a lot of vitriolic comments against pimpandhost - do we know why this is?

And lastly, if so many despise it, why is the plugin even there?

Sorry....is this an area of controversy? I'm just worried as recently completed ID projects over 2000 models with Lord knows how many jpgs may have been a huge mistake!!

Pimp & Host was installed by one of the previous site owners who, I think, also owned P&H. When VEF was subsequently sold P&H went along with it. It does generate revenue for the current owner which is why it is kept and we have no say in that. By the way the owner has no direct involvement with the running of this site; it's just another business for him and he's content to have us run it as we see fit.

P&H has a reputation for being more unreliable than some of the more popular hosts hence the dislike by some members. Now for some reason known only to their politicians Norway has banned this host for all ISP's within their country.

Every member can choose to use any host they wish without regard to who owns what.

Pimpandhost seems to be blocked in Australia now too.

Well, now it seems the ban is actually lifted in Norway...

Not surprising really. Pretty hard to defend blocking a service where anyone, anywhere, can upload anything at any time; by that logic most of the internet would have to be banned.

Update..... Through a discussion I have had with contacts, I have found out that PimpandHost is not owned by the current forum owner. It was not purchased along with any of the forums at the time of the sale.

The plugin was left enabled for member convenience only, not to generate revenue. It is quite possible that the plugin may be removed soon so I would suggest that members use other picture hosts and stop using PimpandHost altogether.

Sorry for the confusion and once again thanks for your patience.

Being able to upload directly when posting is a big advantage.
Another forum saw posts drop by 50% when this ability was removed.
You may want to replace this host with another, but I would advise against doing away with this feature altogether.

I'd also like to say that for me, I've never had any issues with P&H. Imagevenue I tend to find unreliable, especially over time, Imagebam always opens a pop up when I try and view an image. P&H has always been pretty good for me. Different strokes for different folks I suppose
