Default sorry, I'm on a roll

Thought I'd post a few more pics guys. Wouldn't mind a bit of creative criticism. I'm not a pro snapper, but I like to think I can take a decent pic. Hey, what do I know?

Great pictures.Two questions though,
The second pic in your first post- is that the place or model for the Windows XP default wallpaper?

The 6th picture in your second post, and the very last one (water falls)- do you have them in HQ, and without tags? They would make an excellent wallpapers.

It's relatively wet in the West and dryish further East.I live in the middle, most days it doesn't rain though neither is it mostly sunny either.About 22 inches of rain a year on average.
Fogs (the really thick ones) are a thing of the past , they were largely the result of pollution from coal.
It never gets very hot or cold either unlike in continental areas.

Patrick Bronte, father of the famous writers, used to walk the 12 miles from Thornton at the other side of Bradford, to Apperley Bridge several times a week whilst courting. It is also the home of Woodhouse Grove School, the place your parents tried to get you in if you didn't pass the enterance exam to Bradford Grammer School.

As for RH's Bay, I dont think it has changed that much. Still a fabulous place to visit.
We once walked through a wood and past a sewage farm and through another wood and came to the garden at the back of a pub; then, round the front: The Woolpack!

John Wroe, an evangelist who died in 1863, tried to walk on the water of the River Aire at Apperley Bridge. The silly beggar didn't think to try it without an audience, so not only did he get wet but also got chased back into Bradford by an angry and disappointed (if maybe a bit gullible) crowd (it's a hell of a hill to run up, as well). There was a book - Mr Wroe's Virgins - based on his story, written by Jane Rogers; a TV series based on the book featured several young actresses (inc. Minnie Driver and Kathy Burke) in various states of undress(to get back to the main topic of this forum).

There is a really nice little Folly in the woods to the right, as you come out of Bradford, and once you get past the river and canal. Quite a walk, though.

Is the sunset one Ribbleshead?
Lovely pictures by the way, makes me feel almost homesick!

Default Not mine (I wish they were)

But these are images of a few of my personal favourite places in GOC.

Fountains Abbey-near Ripon:

Popular tourist destination, maintained by the National Trust and you have to pay to get on to the site, plus its a fairly arduous 15 minute walk through a wood to get there. When I was a kid it was free, and we went there for family picnics several times.

Holme Moss:

Way back when there was a craze for Citizens Band Radio, people used to drive to the carpark at the top of Holme Moss because up there you could get reception all the way to the North Sea. The view itself on a good day is more than 40 miles, across the Vale of York: you can pick out the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the cooling towers of the notorious Drax power station, especially when it's cold and the plumes of sulphur dioxide are rising. Sorry about this sour note, but it's a fact.

The winter scene is of the Moss itself, which is the point where Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Lancashire join together. In the village of Holme, just below the reservoir, there's a pub called The Fleece, which I have posted on Tabler's favourite pubs thread. The road soars from Holmfirth (where Last of the Summer Wine is set), up past Holme to the summit of Holme Moss, into Derbyshire towards Glossop. BTW Glossop doubles as Royston Vesey in The League of Gentlemen. Before it reaches Glossop, it joins the A6024 and runs either NW towards Manchester or SW towards Sheffield: the Sheffield Road takes you through the Woodhead Pass. This used to be a favourite rideout for me on my motorbike way back when I still lived in West Yorkshire .

Nostalgia, nostalgia...
