I voted 'Windows' in this poll, but actually at least one recent version of Windows is every bit as bad as OS X.
Also - to a degree, it's Apples* and oranges. It depends what you want to do. But for general browsing, email, watching videos, word-processing and other run-of-the-mill domestic tasks, I'd buy a Windows box over a Mac every time - much better choice of hardware and more robust, despite its vulnerability to viruses. Provided I didn't have to use Vista. Fortunately, I don't have to make that choice. I use Linux. *see what I did there? |

I've only ever had Apple computers - four in total - I've still got them all and they all still work perfectly, even the original iMac I got in 1998 goes fine although it's ancient OS 9 operating system means that it's too outdated for daily use.
I've never had a virus and I've never had a crash. I don't know anything about PCs except that they are horrible to look at and they are popular among the financially challenged. |

Never a serious problem with this or any of my other 60+ Macs [I manage the families' computers as well...hence the large #] since 1988. I own virus software...but never use it. Beware of IT pros who knock Macs...they are protecting their bottom line. |

I just want the thing to work
I own three computers. One PC runs Windows XP. One PC runs Vista. and one is an iMac.
From a dead boot, the XP PC takes 20 minutes for it to get to a point where I can work on it. Therefore I leave it on all the time, and if perchance it reboots to Log In page overnight, then I might as well fix my morning tea and get a paper because I'll be waiting 20 min. Both the XP PC and the Vista PC have the problem that the Windows "background" programs suddenly are active and take up all the available memory, locking the computer. I go to Task Manager and stop them, only to have them re-activate themselves a few minutes later. The Vista PC is particularly bad in this regard, often locking up my computer from 30-45 minutes at a time. Yes I have absolutely up to the minute Anti Virus and spyware, programs. The Mac does none of these things. Now, there's no need to be smug about the lack of viruses for the Mac. The reason there aren't Mac viruses is that the Mac is such an insignificant share of the market that a hacker won't waste their time writing one. At the end of the day I just want the thing to work, no muss, no fuss, no crashes, no lock-ups. The Mac does that. The Windows PC's do not. Three Words.
Windows Movie Maker
I don't think this has ever worked properly from day one, like just about every other programme on my pc. This is my fourth. I'm hard pressed to think of a single programme that does function properly. Fair enough, the software is generally not from microsoft, but then isn't that the problem? I realise that this will upset some (hey, what about me? ) and fair enough if this post gets deleted. I wish i'd listened to my mac user friend more before i bought my current pc. Mac's are the only way to make music! I started by using IBM in the eighties where i worked. Never had any grief, but then there was no internet either. |

Now I have a Vista machine with 8 GB memory, and the boot time is acceptable. But if it has an external hard drive connected when booting, it takes much longer to recognize than if I connect it after booting. No idea why |
