Default Hello John Got A New iMac

After years of dithering, shall I shan't I, oooh it's too expensive etc I finally pushed out the boat and purchased a new 21" iMac after using Windows computers for over 15 years. What a breathe of fresh air. This might still be the honeymoon period but it's so much quicker, cleaner and better looking. I installed some printer software on it and in the time it took me to turn the iMac on and install and start printing, my partner's windows laptop was still booting up ffs. Well worth the cutter and I wish I had bought one ages ago.

True, but you could get 2 PCs for the same price? Or maybe a desktop and a lappy?

I am currently awaiting delivery of a MacBook Pro laptop.

I'm just so tired of incompatability issues with microcok software and that's just for starters.

I also am seriously distressed that banks, governments and companys use pc's.

Though Macs are more expensive, you will find they last much longer. The one I replaced with my newish iMac lasted 8 1/2 years.

After being a PC user for over 22 years I made the switch and bought an iMac in February 2008. What a relief! It just works!
The one thing stopping me from buying a Mac was the mac users who were like 'born again Christians' preaching how wonderful the mac was. Now I am one of those preaching how great the mac is...

Durability is attractive; but seriously, if you're using 'old' hardware it isn't possible to run modern software efficiently due to too small memory and slow processing power. And it's difficult to upgrade Mac hardware, from what I've heard (is that true?)

On the other hand, it's good to have a reserve if the main machine doesn't work, so I understand your point

I hope you get on OK with your iMac. As an IT specialist who had to work with them, I'd certainly never buy one myself. By some distance the worst implementation of Unix I've ever had to work with, and I've worked with a fair few. The filesystem (HFS+) is appalling, as well.

That's certainly not what I found. The lab I worked for had about 25 iMac G5s and a few (so-called) PowerMac G5s when I joined. By the time I left less than 3.5 years later, I'd had about 20 of those taken away for recycling due to hardware faults that weren't economic to repair.

I celebrated getting rid of every one of them, so in my case that wasn't so bad. Probably wouldn't feel the same if I'd paid for them.

If you pay more than the average sort of user you can certainly build a quality PC as well.

Nobody buys a quality Enermax power supply for instance, because they are VERY expensive. Never seen one that got busted though - ever.
