I heard the Israel tanks (and other land based vehicles) has automated defense system that will stop anti-tank weapons like an RPG or an air to ground rocket like a Hellfire.

Yes-it remains to be seen whether the cost and utility of such systems will see widespread adoption. The Israelis miscalculated big time in the 2006 Lebanon war-and lost significant numbers of their Merkava MBTs to Hisbollah missile teams-armed with a range of varying equipments that proved surprisingly effective. Some of this was stupidity on the behalf of the Israelis-I know South Lebanon well-having served there on peacekeeping ops-and it is NOT tank country-being hilly, wooded in places and very constrained for routes-so putting tanks into situations akin to shooting ducks in a barrel was not clever-or simply hubris....
The Merkava was too much of a status symbol for Israel to accept being handled in such a cavalier fashion-and so they put a lot of effort into an active defence system. That being said-whilst it seems very effective against ground based missiles-it is useless against any form of high velocity round-which these days means invariably AFDSFS......and I have severe doubts whether it could cope with something like a Maverick.

Once you start fitting these type of system to light vehicles though-at a stated cost of ~$300,000 per unit-you run up against the cost-benefit wall-plus all the imponderables about how much your soldiers's lives are worth...

It makes sense to fit a $300,000 unit to a $5-$8 million tank-does it make sense to fit one to a $150,000 APC-and triple the cost of the vehicle?....

The reality is-you'll end up with a lot less but safer-vehicles-so somewhere along the line you'll lose flexibility, capability...and mass-it's a vicious circle when it comes to budgets....

Well considering that "Charged armour" is currently in development, you're not too wide of the mark...

It will need to be pretty impressive to deflect a stabloy, tungsten or DU long rod penetrator travelling at 5000fps.....
