I meant that they're less likely to be recognized in the street or wherever by someone with a grudge.

The wearing of wigs in court promotes an air of importance to the proceedings and lets everyone know who the criminals are.

How are you all coping with the heatwave? I ask because I got an email from my sister today. She is visiting her daughter who is a paramedic in London. 32'c yesterday she said and her daughter's flat has no aircon And my niece is a single responder and apparently the car she drives has no aircon either.

Very, very few houses here in the UK will have aircon, we don't normally get enough hot weather to justify it. Most offices and modern shops though will have it, so you can escape it at times. Otherwise it's just a case a muddling through - opening all doors and windows to catch a breeze, drinking plenty of water, using fans to move air around.
A lot of cars too won't have aircon, although most built in the last few years will. It's like when it snows here, it's not an annual, dependable event so we don't build the infrastructure to deal with it.

There is a climate called "West Coast Marine" that exists in only three places: Western Europe, the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. and British Columbia, and central Chile. It requires that prevailing winds come off an ocean in temperate latitudes and have hills of a certain height. It is marked by rain and moderate temperatures.
One of the benefits was that the areas didn't require air conditioning. Then folks discovered they could make money off of fossil fuels. Now we're fucked. |
