Even if Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings stayed in for five sessions, which would be the first time an England partnership did so since the 1990s when Atherton and Russell did it, they would also need to score 498 runs as well and win the game, because there is a stampede of cheap wickets waiting to fall like shit out of a goose as soon as the first wicket falls. I doubt if anyone will score 50 runs and any defeat margin below 300 will be a pleasant surprise. None of these players strikes me as being up for it.

I don't think cook has another good innings in him, if Stokes can't produce then his recall was a huge mistake, We shall see..

Now that Ben Stokes has reached 10, this test match has become the first one ever where all of the top 5 batsmen of both teams have made at least double-digit scores in both innings.
see http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/eng...s;type=batting I'm staggered that it's taken 2,316 matches for that to happen! .

Today's thoughts.
1. Is Keaton Jennings suffering from Malanitis - can not get runs and spils most slip catches ? And we know what happens next don't we. 2. Shame that the 'real' batsmen (aka top order) could not show the same application as the 'afternoon matinee' 3. Ton for Buttler so he probably has justified his selection. 4. Fifty for 'Rocky'. Methinks Curran would have done just as well. 5. Could the weather gods have the final say ? |

Just a comment or two from me today (sighs of relief everywhere )
Concerns the award for MOM to Kohli. Said it before and will say it again that there are occasions with the award somewhat smells of nepotism. True that his runs over the two innings were the ultimate margin of victory but for an all-round performance I believe that Pandya deserved it the more. At least the administrators at Nottingham came to their senses and cancelled their proposed charge of a tenner for today's play. |
