I now have a favorite fantasy. When I die I hope to be re-incarnated as a Quokka. Quokkas have great lives on Rottnest Island whcih is 18 kilometers off the coast of the city of Perth on the southwestern coast of Australia. There are no predators on the island because it is a tourist center. Quokkas have a simple life. They spend most of their time eating leaves from a special tree that only grows on the island and also in some places on the Australian continent. They also eat the leaves from a unique shrub also only found on the island. There are about 8,000 quokkas on the island and they live from between 5 and 10 years.

tmee2000 what was that thing you were talking about some months ago about Lassseter's lost Reef, something about a gold mine that he said he saw, but died before it was found?
Maybe we could go on an expedition to try to find it, but I don't see how, since I live in the U.S. and you live in Australia. You could be like Sherlock Holmes and I could be Dr. Watson your older sidekick!! Last edited by trailmaster; May 2nd, 2018 at 02:18 PM.. |

Hi tmee2000. Have you ever been to that area in Central Australia where Lasseter said he knew of this gold mine?. After he died men from his expedition scoured the area and found nothing. That was back in 1930. Now geologists have all kinds of fantastic electronic machines that can send x-rays into the earth to probe the depths and possibly uncover gold, silver, and other rare minerals. But it would cost you a bundle of money to even rent this equipment and then you also would have to pay someone to come with you who knew how to use it!!

Mr. Lagan, again:
Not convinced by the "dispossession" argument. Smells of mythologising as there's quite a bit of evidence that recent voting behaviour was rather different from such a scenario. Plus the white underclass are far from the first dispossessed--imagine if all of them had felt that way? |

Now, if there really was any truth to this Lasseter stuff, which I doubt, this would be the best incentive to visit Australia. In 1849 practically everyone in America had gold fever. Vast gold depositis were found in many parts of the western states and everyone was going there hoping to strike it rich. Hundreds of tons of gold was found over a few decades. If you've ever heard or seen western movies made in the U.S. you often hear the term: the 49ers. They are talking about the great gold rush that started in 1849 and went on until every ounce of gold had been extracted from gold veins in mountains, mountain streams and other areas. Most of the gold in Fort Knox came from this gold. Although the gold in Fort Knox is really small compared to the gold stored in the Federal Gold Reserve in New York City. It is equal to almost 500 billion dollars.

Forget Lasseter's Reef TM. For a measly one million dollarydoos I am prepared to provide you with a map giving the location of the billabong that is the home of the last surviving Bunyip. Fame and fortune await you my adventurous friend.
For an extra hundred thousand I will throw in fresh scat certified as belonging to The Grampians Panther. |
