French Movie Title Aliases
Why do classic French pornos have so many aliases?
Not only in other languages but in French too. Some of them seem to have an endless supply of "alternate titles" one after another. This doesn't seem to be the case with quality American productions; at least not as overboard. Hence, easier to find and purchase. |

I believe that came as an indirect result of strict advertising restrictions in France, for sex films. One consequence of that was that punters found it difficult to identify a movie from its (very limited) advertising material, and so producers simply flogged the same old same old under new titles.
I recall that the restrictions came in as the result of a public reaction to a in-your-face advertising campaign for the original Emmanuelle film. |
