I'm quite looking forward to seeing this version of the Doctor. Hopefully the naysayers are wrong and she won't cause the end of civilisation as we know it.

Patrick Troughton. Had the toughest job of the lot in being the second Doctor. A role in which he successfully paved the way for all of those who've followed since.
Which is why I've voted for him.
There have been many excellent actors who've successfully played the role. Ranging from Jon Pertwee to Matt Smith.
But as for the next doctor. I have to admit I don't know if this is anything to do with the BBC's obsession with it's LGBT/PC agenda or whether it's simply a case of inspired genius. Only time will tell.

Perhaps you need a little persuasion from Rover number 6.

I’m just wondering if she regenerated with her earrings just magically appearing or if her first trip in the TARDIS was to Claire’s Accessories?

As previously stated, I have no objections to Jodie Whittaker as the next Doctor and I would like to hope her selection is partly due to a case of inspired genius (for example I'm hoping the Thirteenth Doctor reunites with Captain Jack Harkness - can you imagine Jack's reaction? ).

But if the Thirteenth Doctor turns out to be just a case of the BBC pushing a PC agenda, with stories that fail to live up to such a momentous character development, then I will be just as cheesed-off as the other critics on this thread at the Beeb for sacrificing a classic Sci-F icon at the SJW altar, and "Auntie" will (deservedly) find itself deep in the brown smelly stuff.

Oh, for heaven's sake, spare us an XX "Doctor".

Star Trek did something equally lamentable, with everyone's least favorite "Captain", Janeway.

I have no problem with female protagonists-- there have been great women in SF, including the badass of all time, Ripley in the Alien franchise.

But just as I've got no interest in Pat Boone singing Fats Domino, there's no need to rewrite every role.

I'm a bit irritated on the subject--recently saw a performance of "Julia Caesar" -- yes, some PC thespian had decided that Caesar should be a woman.

Its was as [not] compelling as you'd imagine.

So far as "favorite doctors" go, I seem to be the rare fan of Christopher Ecclestone . . . but then I didn't grow up watching it, so it reflects recent viewing.

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think a female doctor will work. Not because such an icon role should be always for some reason be male, but because of an ingrained misogynist mindset in our culture.

And if you'd ever watched 'Blakes 7', Servalan, played by Jacqueline Pearce, stole the show as the main antagonist....

Sorry Beeb, but the "rapping" in the second trailer irritated me quite a bit...

[EDIT] And I'm also unhappy at the BBC moving "Doctor Who" to a Sunday slot:

Jodie Whittaker's Doctor Who to be broadcast on Sundays

I'd prefer "Doctor Who" stay on Saturdays - call me a stick-in-the-mud, but to me that's where it belongs....
