They were stupid enough up here in Sporranland a few years ago to vote for a Scottish Parliament - I ask you - what sort of morons would vote for MORE politicians? So is it safe to let the public at large decide about PR?

Have you noticed that birds seem to be getting up earlier and earlier these days? I mean of course the feathered variety and whilst incommunicado on the lav last night at 3am!!!! I could hear them chirruping away-and yet I always believed the little perishers started at around 4.30am during the spring/summer months-maybe its so quiet now after two years of constant machinery noise they can finally be heard but I still feel like opening the window and yelling out "SHUT YOUR BEAKS!" (reprinted from the What do you remember thread)

Have you noticed that we are constantly reliving the 1980's-I noticed that there are several programmes coming up on the BBC from next week and last night was a whole evening on BBC2(which I recorded) dedicated to Radio 1-I admit that although that decade brought about such hate figures as Yuppies and Mrs Thatcher, and the worst clothing ever, it wasn't that bad a decade for being a teenager in with so many new innovations to look forward to-in particular the computer boom of 1982/83 when Britain ruled the world in home computing. For me it was the last four years of my school life(I left at 18 in 1984) but then going onto the then Supplementary Benefit system made me wish I could still go to school or college. The Government couldn't give a stuff for the unemployed(which is why I am so Anti-Tory these days) and even when they did create things like Job Training & Employment Training(ET) Schemes they only gave you a measly £10 on top of your already measly Benefit.

The best thing for me about the 80's were decent films to see, proper Blockbusters too and the music-hearing old bands brings it all back-so watch a special TOTP of the 80's tonight and see if you can remember back to those days) assuming you were a teen of course

I believe the reason for this is that it gives sufficient time for the new, or incumbent, Prime Minister to appoint his ministers on the Friday and the weekend, so that the new cabinet can be up and running for the Monday morning.

There was a time, before universal suffrage, when the voting process at elections was sprawled out over 3 or 4 days - and sometimes the count would take many days to complete. This meant that the final result wasn't known for over a week.

We used to have Budgets on Tuesdays too and I also think it might have had something to do with the Prime Minister's Question Times(which were on Tuesdays & Thursdays) but moved to Wednesdays only by Tony Blair.

Stopping women's suffrage would have speeded things up.

Exclamation Nato soldiers in Moscow

Nato soldiers parade on Red Square

But they didn't bring their tanks, and were guarded by Siberians

Interesting news day.

Imagine having Gideon Osborne and Olly Letwin in your negotiating team - they've been so inept they've had to offer the libdems a referendum on AV. In a panic after Gordo's sword-swallowing act.

Gordon's banana republic, he isn't falling on his sword any time soon, politicians double-talk, he will resign "sometime soon"

Vote clegg, and get brown, or more accurately get miliband - two unelected prime ministers in a row...

or to be completely accurate, vote clegg, and get whomever, disgraced politician and batty-boy, mandelson gives you

This is a hilarious post for German-speakers

"AV" is the abbreviation for "Analverkehr" (anal intercourse). Why they need a referendum for it in England? Do they need permission?
