immatell,
Sometimes its hard to tell if the electronics have failed in the HD or the case. Which is why you try flipping a known good case with a known good HD (and vice versa). That way you can narrow down the problem. If you have access to a desktop you can temporarily install the HD to the cables inside the case and, if the desktop recognizes the HD, then you know the case is the problem. Pitch it and buy another. So it seems you've tried all that with no joy. If so, then just go get another external case and HD. I've had pretty good luck with Seagate drives and Coolmax cases. I think I have one of these: http://www.coolmaxusa.com/productDet...tegory=3.5SATA and, so far, its worked pretty well. I see Walmart has them for about $25. Hard drives still haven't come down very much but you might be able to find a used one for reasonable. Good luck. Quote:

I've heard good things about Seagate, so i think i'll give them a try. Thanks again for your help.
As a final effort, i've put my drive in the freezer. It'll be ready in a few hours |

I was looking at the Backup Plus range, seem to be getting decent reviews.
By the way, freezer trick kind of works. I've managed to grab a few more files that i previously couldn't access. The transfer rate is extremely slow, but the drive hasn't reset so far. |
