For both NZ & Aus to end up on 5 points, England will have lost to both of them.

But here's my question for today.

What is the difference between Jade Durnbach (sp!) (Remember him) and Jake Ball ?. Not much since it appears that both go for a small fortune in ODI's.

Sterner tasks ahead methinks. And no guarantee to the semis let alone the final.
Easy answer. Dernbach is a bluffer who got picked because he plays for Surrey. Tried too many variations before he had a solid, go-to ball to go to if necessary.

Ball is an excellent, improving bowler who has had a couple of bad days.

Jade Dernbach didn't measure up. All things can change of course: his career isn't finished yet. But Jake Ball is a very promising young player entering the prime of his career but he too has much to prove.

Interesting to watch South Africa make quite heavy going against Sri Lanka's bowling on an Oval pitch which was a little bit slow but otherwise looked rather innocuous and batting-friendly. Someone called Hasheem Amla was batting but then turned into the real Hasheem Amla when he he was joined in the middle by Faf du Plessis. JP Duminy and Chris Morris delivered a feisty little partnership at the end. Good bowling and (mostly) good fielding by Sri Lanka, and SA are probably about 20 runs below par at 299 for six after their 50 overs. Its a strange world we live in now, when 299 runs in 50 overs is a hard score to defend, but I think South Africa's bowlers are their weaker suit in the short game and they will need to post above par scores to win this tournament. In a situation like this one their best bet is to bowl the opposition out rather than try to contain them; they do have Rabada. However, Sri Lanka are presently 170-6 off 34 overs and have an awful lot to do and I fancy South Africa to bowl Sri Lanka out today.

Anyone can have a bad day or two. Maybe since he has had two in quick succession he will come good next time out.

And I guess he will be needed with Woakes out and Stokes also a little injury/vunerable.

More fundamental.

Should Jason Roy be 'rested' for the next game ? And let Bairstow open with Hales.

Had it not been for Bairstow, England's tally in that horror show against S.A. I doubt they would have reached 50 all out.

Will not be around to see that game. But Australia do appear vunerable at the moment. Possibly this dispute with their board is playing on them.

Crushing win today for the mighty White Rose over the Kolpak-stuffed Lankys. Shows there is no short cut to building a good side - build a good academy, bring them through and occasionally add from outside. Don't sign a bunch of South African mercenaries and over the hill West Indians...

Heard on radio interview today that Morgan has said that Roy is in for the whole tournament .....but I wonder what a low score or two will change that??

Australia's game washed out at the Oval yesterday and limited play expected at Cardiff today with a forecast of sunshine and heavy showers.

Default BBC, I love you, but will you please stop being so shite!

I'm glad to see that (a nod towards) cricket is back on the BBC, but I'm just wondering: I complained a couple of days ago to the BBC about the sound mix on their highlights broadcasts of the Champions Trophy (I've yet to hear back from them, I mean it's not like anything else is going on right now in Britain that should take precedence over cricket, right?)... is anyone else finding themselves in the 'mildly miffed to actually pissed off' bracket about the dreadful sound balance on the BBC's coverage? The out-of-game voiceovers are loud and clear but the in-game commentary is like listening to somebody mumbling in a sack in the next door room!

... By the way, for the record I've never listened to somebody mumbling in a sack in the next door room, that's just a metaphore, there's no need to call the emergency services!
