A few things to try as mentioned here started in 1/2016

https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1...o-sync-issues/

Theres one program linked - latencymon that sounds useful for finding specific causes

LatencyMon checks if a system running Windows is suitable for processing real-time audio and other tasks. LatencyMon analyzes the possible causes of buffer underruns by measuring kernel timer latencies and reporting DPC and ISR excecution times as well as hard pagefaults.

Old problems linger with new Windows 10 Anniversary Update, build 14393.222

This is the seventh cumulative update for Win10 Anniversary Update in the past eight weeks. With all that patchin' goin' on, you might think Win10 AU would be pretty well plugged by now. Many folks would disagree.

The drive freezes, install failures, and network lockups continue,
but many little bugs are finally gone

My dad phoned last night - he was having problems with his computer. He upgraded from 7 to 10 a few months ago. I actually wanted to back-up his system first, but he charged ahead with the upgrade.

Went round to his house this afternoon. It would boot to bios and go no further. The keyboard was powered up, but not responding to DEL to enter bios setup. His keyboard was actually one of mine he nicked from my house when I went away on holiday, so I switched back to his old one, and this time I was able to get into bios setup and boot.

After nearly an hour of Windows 10 updates, rebooted. Reattached my keyboard and verified Windows still booted.

No idea why Windows 10 would screw up to the point it couldn't boot. Maybe it buggered up a keyboard driver? Perhaps a virus? Anyway, working now.

I'm guessing it hasn't been resolved. Anyone want to make a bet?
By the way, it hasn't been resolved. Now IT thinks its a "network issue".

3 x Ubuntu since many years (including my wife's), extremely stable.
4 x Win 7 since a few years, very stable, i changed 2 of them to Win 10 a few months ago.
2 hours and no problem to install Win 10, but: 1 week of search and work to find solutions to get rid of all in Win 10 which i never need on a desktop PC and to find out that Microsoft don't let me switch off all of what i don't need or want. I'm a Windows user since 3.1 but enough is enough.

Update:

This problem occurs on my old laptop. I recently purchased a new one (HP) and it already had Windows 10 pre-installed and yes there was the anniversary mega update from Windows. However, it has not caused the same issues I was experiencing as mentioned above.

I haven't been following this thread lately as I am now employed and working six days a week plus overtime. I am toying with the idea of buying a used Windows 7 machine and applying the upgrade to Windows 10 Professional..........MAYBE. I'm still not sold on Windows 10, but I'd like to take a whack at the beast to see if I can make it behave the way I want it to.

Meanwhile, a one page flyer in the Sunday paper from Dell has business deals for new desktops and laptops. All but one are running Windows 7 Professional, with a license to upgrade to Windows 10 Professional. Checking the Dell website, the majority of their business offerings are Windows 7 Pro.

Clearly Dell is not all in on Windows 10. And the fact that it's business offerings are Win 7 indicates it's customer base isn't fully onboard either. This counters the notion that Microsoft is forcing system OEMs to advertise only Windows 10 offerings. It also add a big question mark to claims that enterprise customers are flocking to Windows 10. Clearly the comfort level still isn't there yet, esp. for home, small, and medium sized businesses who cannot lavish cash and an army of IT professionals to resolve the numerous upgrade and implementation issues going forward (?) to Win 10.

As always, check it out for yourself............

Default Keeping Win10 updated gets more complicated

"The current branch of Windows 10 Anniversary Update has more than a few lumps.

"With Version 1607 installation failures, nearly weekly cumulative fixes, and problems with the Sept. 29 cumulative update, keeping AU up to date requires some careful steps."

Default Microsoft strikes again

As you already know, the last W10 update (#14393.222) brought more problems.

Here is a link related to it:
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...page=30&auth=1

or
https://www.neowin.net/news/microsof...ls-to-14393222

There are more than 30 pages on this Microsoft site concerning the last update.
For Microsoft, a small number of people were concerned by this small problem.

It is a problem I already mentionned in this thread.

This problem was already evoked by testers but at Microsoft nobody took notice.
Yet they were notified.

To resume, when you have installed 14393.222, if you wish to shutdown you must be very quick because you see your machine starting again.
So you find yourself in an infernal loop.

The people who do maintenance on Win10 machines will have work to do.
