Roger... Neither Sato or Chilton could be considered legends, so I'll assume you meant that tongue in cheek? Also rans for sure.
Bet that engine failure isn't going to make things any better between Alonso & Honda??!

A car race around a tight street circuit like Monaco is always going to be tedious for the spectator, particularly those watching on TV. It is though an awesome and unique challenge for drivers so needs to remain on the calendar.
In my view, what F1 needs is variety. It's not enough for that to be provided by going to different but essentially similar tracks around the world; what's needed is variation in the type of races provided. For example, I'd like at least one race to be double length. At the moment, an F1 race lasts about 1.5 hours and can be up to 2 hours within a 4 hour window. So, let's have one or more races scheduled to last about 3 hours or perhaps a touch more, within a 5 hour window to accommodate TV production companies' schedules. I'd ideally that race to be at Le Mans on the full 13.6 km track used for the classic WEC 24 hour race, but the smaller Bugatti circuit might be necessary for safety reasons. And for Monaco, scrap the absurdity of cars going around nose-to-tail with the impossibility of overtaking. Instead, make the Monaco GP a time-trial. Keep qualfying much the same as it is now, but instead of it determining places on a grid, it sets the order for the time-trial - quickest cars going last when they benefit from knowing their target time and having more rubber laid down. The time-trial itself should be similar to qualifying for the Indy 500. Each car completes (say) 4 laps of the track, the one doing it in the quickest time wins the GP and gets the 25 points, obviously with the lesser points going to second quickest, third quickest, etc. .

You're right - and , given that the TV spectators pay for the damned procession, the quicker we all switch off [I fell asleep] the quicker it'll be consigned to history.

Regarding sunday's race in Monaco, it's a fantastic result for Ferrari and whether Kimi was robbed of a win has little significance for me to be honest. Vettel wasn't hired to play second fiddle at Ferrari, he was brought to bring both titles back in Maranello. Kimi will be 38 next fall, I would be very surprised if Ferrari re-signed him for next year.

Not a fan of the result as I'm not a Vettel fan. Would have preferred to see Kimi win, but for whatever reason, his pit stop was not the stuff wins are made of. I think with Lewis' bad result and Vettel's win, the World Championship is a lock for Sebastian. I do hope I'm wrong.

The Vettel win is bad news for Bottas. If he's in a position to win and Hamilton is behind him, he'll be asked to concede position.

Honda just seems to have one disaster after another. Button having to have replacement parts and get a grid penalty. McLaren the only team not to have scored points. And at the Indy 500, Fernando's engine giving up.
What will Alonso do next year??? Formula 1 needs him in a competitive car, but I think Hamilton and Vettel would work very, very, very hard to block him joining them. |
