I know what you mean GreenSkull, I was stood in a baker's behind some old guy who smelled like he had pissed his pants in 1983 and hadn't got round to changing them yet. Even the flies kept away from him.

A matter of scale
We don't see the world panoramically: we see (and smell) what is shoved into our faces. We know from the news that the world is rotten, and it does trouble us, but since we seldom have a chance to improve it, we defend ourselves by not obsessing over things which are beyond our control.
Also, don't you find its the small things which often freak you out more? To quote Jean Webster: ''Anybody can rise to a crisis and face a crushing tragedy with courage, but to meet the petty hazards of the day with a laugh - I really think that that requires spirit.''

You may believe they are pointless and immature but they are issues that we actually come across regularly and could be put right quickly if people just cared more about how their behaviour affected other people. That is what makes them so annoying and trust me a complete lack of personal hygiene is not a triviality in a confined space.
The global issues you refer to are way beyond merely being annoying but sadly no matter what we think many of those who hold the reins of power benefit from maintaining the status quo which is why Africa is still as firmly in the mire so many years after the original Live Aid concerts. How ironic that Quo actually opened the set that day. |

Rushing to judgement.
I see on the BBC that there were ''angry scenes outside the courtroom'' when Vanessa George, the accused person in the Plymouth nursery paedophilia story, was arraigned this morning.
Now these charges are really serious and you have to think that the case is probably very strong because charges are being brought so quickly. The parents of the children who attend the Little Teds nursery must be choking with utter fury. But it always depresses me when people act as though the accused had been tried and sentenced already and his/her side of the story hasn't even been heard yet. It's the classic pre-requisite for every gross miscarraige of justice I've ever heard of. On a slightly lighter note, when Jonathan King (total nonce, guilty as hell) was being tried, I had a conversation with a biker chum which went a bit like this: Chum: He's a f**K**g nonce! I hope they cut his balls off. scoundrel: Hold on! He hasn't even been tried yet! Chum: Yeah, but anyone can tell he's guilty. Just look at him. What a nonce! scoundrel: But come on! What about evidence? Charges? Witnesses? You can't bang someone up in prison just because he looks like a nonce! Chum: Well...I suppose. Can't just bang him up for what he looks like. Fair doos. We'd better let him have a trial... see what he has to say for himself. Pause. Chum: But you can tell he's a nonce though, just by looking at him! scoundrel: True...

But i`d have thought that one of the easiest things to do As silverware is the metal stuff that goes clink While white socks are made of fabric and don`t make a sound

what does sound have to do with sorting? I loathe sorting the big fork from the small fork, and the big spoon from the small spoon so I just put them all into one tray in the silverware drawer...it's a draw. Regarding the sock sorting, I overcame that issue by throwing out all my white socks one day and buying 10 pairs of the exact same sock so now there is nothing to sort as all white socks match all other white socks....win 4 I. |
