One of the bars he frequented was The Classic Cat on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. Several models of the era, including Roberta Pedon, also frequented the bar. Years ago I contacted several people who knew Crane, but could not determine for sure whether she ever made a film with him.

These are from a book called "Bob Crane: He Got it Coming". It collected a number of photos from his sons old website. I don't own the book but found these images from it online.

Lastly there is an image that a journalist (John Hook) posted on his blog that shows some of the porn in evidence that the police have. It you zoom it you can see a lot of photos of naked women that Crane photographed, a few are hardcore. I don't know it you can get clearer images from it, if you edited it properly (I think it is to small, but I don't have Photoshop or any tools to touch it up) but I clumsily edited a few bits from it so you can see.

I only just became aware of Bob Crane's hobby and its fascinating story. I certainly dont doubt he was the only A or B list celeb who have similar interests with video documentation!

I've been curious about seeing the Bob Crane sex tapes ever since seeing Auto Focus, which is one of my favorite films. It has always been baffling to me why this material is not more readily available given that there is apparently so much of it. I can only assume that the family (or police) have it and aren't releasing much. Also, given the vintage, it clearly wasn't tape traded or exchanged or probably archived in a form that would make it on to the Internet easily.

The only thing I've ever personally seen in terms of actual footage was the Shock Video 2 HBO documentary. The documentary isn't about Crane. It is about how videos are used in court cases and to solve crimes. They do have a very brief segment on the Carpenter trial and discuss how some of Crane's sex tapes were used as evidence. Apparently, there was a specific tape where you could see the murder weapon (a tripod) in the background, and this tape was played for the jury. A brief and heavily censored excerpt from this was shown on the program. It was in black and white and you could make out a threesome with a chick sandwiched in between (I assume) Crane and Carpenter. She was giving one of them a blowjob while the other went down on her. They showed this for maybe 5 seconds, at most, and it was "mosaiced" so you could not see anything. Rather disappointing.

I wish I had better information. I'll leave you with this interesting urban legend from a Usenet newsgroup post that turns 30 years old this year. From alt.folklore.urban. I did not write this post. I found it in a Usenet search.

"Well, time for my UL: I use to work at a video store in Los Angeles
run by an old man (name escapes me now...) and one of his co-horts was
this old German guy who would get various tapes of sorts, and one
day, he said he had the so-called "Bob Crane Sex Tapes" which were
supposedly discovered while his house was raided after his murder
(somewhere in Arizona?). Supposedly on this tape was old Bob himself
with various (?) numbers of young kids in his bedroom. This German
guy would always show the tape around the store to anybody who wanted
to watch it (but never loaned it out). I saw it from across the
store once and all I saw was a 10th generation copy of something
in Black & White."
