Sudden death and people expect flowing football with goals - it rarely occurs

Well so much for the games kicking into gear now we are at the knock out stages. The 2 earlier games and this one have been rubbish and are a poor advert for the Euros. The fans have been more interesting than the games. It seems in every game the fear of being knocked out has created an atmosphere where neither side wants to try to hard and no players want to make a mistake. I hope tomorrow and Monday we see a vast improvement in quality because I imagine not too many are happy to sit and watch this drivel.

Very dissapointed to see Croatia out of competition as the Portuguese didn't deserve this victory with their pesky defensive playing and constant fouls. They just "got through" again. But the Croats were punished for the chances they missed. They still were the best team so far and I think I'm not going to waste my time on another game except maybe the final match.

The fear of losing produces the worst days football I can ever remember. I switched the TV off at 80 minutes on the last game as I felt I had suffered enough.

I have a feeling that Portugal may get to the final, although I would be very happy to be wrong. I say that because it seems they are the luckiest team around at the moment. No wins in the group stage, just 3 draws and they get the the last 16. A boring 0-0 draw after 90 minutes and then in extra time they grab the winning goal to reach the quarters. Even that though was pure luck as Nani scuffed his shot that led to the goal. As I said pure luck so maybe its their year to win something big.

15 minutes watching Swiss v Poland... thought I'd brownose and do some household chores instead. Making sure Wales v N Ireland wasn't sabotaged later on.
Wish it was. Struggled with it, reading and what not at the same time. Boring boring Arsenal. Kept going through my head. Croatia v Portugal. I began to start counting the simulated fouls, too late though. Gave up entirely at 50 minutes or so. as with others, the worst 3 matches I've ever witnessed in a major tournament. Can't wait for England v Iceland. Shame both sides can't lose.... |

I think maybe its time to follow the Copa America and go simply to penalties after 90 minutes. I mean 2 games out of the 3 today dragged on for 90 minutes and then we had to put up with another 30 minutes of dire action. Maybe the threat of penalties would liven the teams up in normal time. Something needs to be done so that fans don't have to sit through another day like today in the future.
