I don't know when they started but for quite awhile now (months, more likely years) imgbox has stored the original filename of an image in the title attribute:

Code:
<div class="image-container">
	<img alt="4cjqlip9" class="image-content" id="img" onclick="rs()" src="https://i.imgbox.com/4cjQLIp9.jpg" title="Bettie_Page_Classic_Nude_Pinup.jpg" />
</div>
If one right-clicks on the above image (from the page url, that is) I get the correct image filename in the save-as box. I also get the correct image filename when right-clicking from the direct image link. I also get the correct filename when right-clicking from retroanalyst's linked gif: "unacceptable.gif".

The underscores has also been a "feature" of imgbox for some years--spaces and commas get replaced. Maybe other chars. as well, I haven't studied.

So: I'm not sure what the problem is that you've found?

Huh, indeed. I could swear that this was different yesterday, but maybe it's just me getting old.

No problem. Just an observation that I thought might be relevant, since this thread is about comparing the merits of various hosts and how they work.

C̶o̶u̶l̶d̶ ̶b̶e̶ aren't we all? Maybe their system for substituting the "title" for the filename was temporarily switched off, day-before-yesterday? /shrug/

imgbox are not alone among hosts in not including image filenames in url links--that is, in having urls that do not display the original filenames. Perhaps the majority are like that?--e.g. P&H.

From memory, imagevenue & turbo image host are a couple that do show the original image filename, in their urls. That can occasionally be handy, e.g. when seeking to fix dead thumbs.

Here you can find how I extract the filename in forum-backup (if you can read the undocumented code...):
https://git.teknik.io/halvar/forum-b...ckup/imagehost
  • Hotflick, Imagetwist, Pixhost: name is in attribute "alt"
  • ImageBam, ImageUpper, ImageVenue, PimpAndHost,TurboImageHost: name is in image url
  • ImgBox: name is in attribute "title"

I will add support for more imagehosts. Imgclick and imgtiger are tricky, they seem to require loading of a second page to get to the image.

  • pimpandhost and imgbox are among the best.
  • Hoster with success rate 0 are not supported yet
  • this includes very old posts, comparing old and new hosters may be unfair
  • it would be interesting to see if retries increase the success rate

Just as a info: Imagebam doesn't keep the original file names anymore since c. 12.7.17:

Older uploads with imagebam contain the original file-names: see here

You are right. And the original filename is nowhere on the image page

Thumbs down imgclick and imgtiger

I accidentally ran into some posts where the images are uploaded to imgclick or imgtiger.

I wasn't able to manually open the full image from imgclick
and it took a lot of waiting and clicking at imgtiger, to get the full image.

IHG works fine for both posts, but downloading manually is a bummer or, at least for me, even impossible.
