For instance, tthose that have been to softplay centres, you can throw yourselves around, crash and bash your way through, ball pits (instead of stones) swinging bags, balancing beams and then still get a plate of pizza n chips afterwards.
If the consoles and phones had been around in my youth (early 80's) then we would've lapped them up. I loved Pacman or Asteroids on their own device, so I can't really criticise the yoof for doing the same.
Are we infact, a bit jealous?

It is different, I don't think there's any doubt about that.
Example, when I was a kid, pre-teen into mid-teens, friends and I would take our .22s, walk a main road without anyone taking notice, down to the creek about a mile below our house, shoot turtles and what not, crossing someone's land that was not owned by anyone that we were related to, and nobody thought anything of it...not us, not the land owner, not other people. (I should add that the owner of the land did know us, did know we were crossing his land, knew our families from way back, was aware we were doing it, and didn't care as long as we didn't shoot any of his cattle or damage anything.)
Today, we would have the SWAT team called on us, the owner of the land would prosecute us for trespassing, our parents would be prosecuted for child neglect, we would be put into some kind of foster home by the state child welfare people, and be marked for life as criminals. So yes, things have changed.
