help please, whats the best programme for downloading videos from the net. thank you if you can help.

I need to extract a clip from a longer video (.avi) for posting here. What are the best freeware programs to use for the purpose?

EDIT: Video Trim was recommended to me, but that site is infected with malware; AVG detected it on download before I got around to opening it, I sent it to quarantine, and on Googling I found that numerous files from that site (x2xsoft.com) have been infected with malware. Do NOT download anything from that site.

IMHO the best place to get freeware is Download.com

The programs are accurately described and rated by users and editors.

Just be careful when you activate anything from them, or you might get a toolbar you don't want. (you can unclick it on the installation wizard)

When using downthemall is there a quick way to filter out unwanted pictures? For instance a page has 8 photosets and I want only the second set. I know I can uncheck the unwanted ones, but this is cumbersome when there's more than 100 pics on the page. Thanks.

There is a way to single out posts: click on the #number in the top right corner of a post. for your post that would be #98 now.

The quickest way I know for Downthemall:
- First Select All and choose 'Unmark selected items'
-then select the pics you want and choose 'Mark selected items'

Thank you, worked flawlessly on forums where you can't 'isolate' a single post.

With Downthemall you can also highlight the links you want on the screen. Just do it like you would highlight text, click-n-hold the left mouse button as you drag it over the thumbnails/links. Then start DTA and it should only list the highlighted links.

Thanks, that works quite well.

one other thing, I can't get DTA to rename files. I'd like the downloaded files to be named pic01.jpg, pic02.jpg and so on. Tried quite a few times with the Renaming Mask. Any ideas?

I don't bother with the rename masks on download programs, I've never been able to get them to work right. I just run everything thru Bulk Rename Utility after I've downloaded it. Slightly more effort but does a much better job.
