Emma you're a fekkin eejit but you've made me smile !

If my calculations are correct, and she flew in a private jet, that one trip used as much fuel as I use in about a year and a half worth of driving.

Default Ukraine election: Comedian Zelensky 'wins presidency'

Ukrainian comedian Volodymyr Zelensky has won a run-off election to become the country's next president, exit polls suggest.

The polls give him more than 70% support. He dominated the first round of voting three weeks ago when 39 candidates were on the ticket.

Mr Zelensky challenged incumbent president Petro Poroshenko.

Ukraine's president holds significant powers over the security, defence and foreign policy of the country.

After voting on Sunday, Mr Zelensky said: "Today it will be the victory of Ukrainians, the victory of Ukraine, and - I hope - the victory of a fair choice."

If polls are correct he will be elected for a five-year term.

The 41-year-old is best known for starring in a political satirical drama in which his character accidentally becomes Ukrainian president.

Much has been written in the media over the last few days, but there is still one issue that really puzzles me.

When planning a major renovation on a heritage structure (or "national treasure") that has important timber & wood-framed components (like a roof), shouldn't someone have asked;

"What are the odds we will have a high-rise fire during the course of this project?"

. . . . and,

"If we do have a fire several hundred feet above ground level, how will we bring water to extinguish it?"

I cannot comprehend why, when they were using extensive metal scaffolding and power lifts (elevators) for men and materials, they did not think to install a temporary array of fire-main stand-pipes; and perhaps run some temporary sprinkler lines through the roof-truss galleries.

Just say'n . . . . this didn't have to happen.

As for the argument about Emma Thompson's ostensible hypocrisy because she was taking a plane to reach an event with the purpose of drawing some attention to climate change, it's as valid as saying that we should all stop breathing because we breathe out carbon dioxide and fart the same along with methane. CO2 is not such a bad thing, for without it we'd live on a very cold planet. But too much of it and Earth's path to resembling Venus will be accelerated rapidly as it's already the case.

Emma Thompson may be a hypocrite on many things but being vocal about climate change does not contradict taking the plane to reach a rather distant part of the world. And I'm not sure what the exact problem is: using a plane as a means of transportation or that she flew first class? How do you even know she did? You saw her ticket? Not saying she didn't and it would make sense if she did but the criticism of her actions presented here sounds more like spite.

On the other hand she's an actress with no science knowledge, just what she's been told by greenpeace, a bit like asking a plumber what is the best biscuit, but one who could give a really sincere sounding answer
