Who's old enough to remember the new pound coin look-alike, the threepenny bit? I've still got some in a jar somewhere about the house.

I've got one somewhere, hell, I think I've even still got a florin if I can find it. Or was it a half-crown?

Thanks a lot! Now I've got to turn the place upside-down trying to find them.

I don't have a threepenny bit, but I have pennies, ha'pennies, sixpences and a shilling. I have a ha'penny from 1915 and a penny from 1917, so they're now officially antiques. The pound coin was the only new coin I actually liked, so I'm interested in what the replacement is like. Haven't seen one yet.

Question Compatability

Do you think the 13 sided new pound coin is so machines (toll booths, parking meters and the like) will accept it without having to be changed ?

If not, there's an awful lot of one armed bandits, vending machines, etc that are going to have to be changed . . . .

Nope. There was a thing on the news about it. Every single vending machine, one-arm-bandit, shopping trolley, gym locker etc. will have to be changed at a cost of millions. I think they mentioned 'hundreds of millions', but I may not have heard/remembered correctly.

I'm so old I've still got an 1813 shilling and a 1914 half sovereign!!

I've always wondered what they're worth! Any numismatic experts on the forum??

The joke at the time - Why is the £1 coin like Margaret Thatcher? Because it's thick and brassy.
