There's no categorization in my collection other than an indexing of the kind and colour of the high heels the girls are wearing. High heels are my main fetish besides sexy underwear - to some extend, thus I name my files like "CumGuzzlers 1 - sc 3 - Janet Alfano, Alexandra Joy - red-black Slingback Sandals - pfsc.mp4", saying there's a girl who wears a pair of red & black heels of the beforementioned kind and that she does it ("pfsc"= perfect scene) from the start of the scene to the very end. I also use "sexy" or even "very" as two prefixes to mark that the shoes shown are particularly beautiful and probably a rather rare sight in prOn-movies.
That said; I'm only loosely interested in certain models - I wouldn't collect all the stuff I can find of any given Lady just to have her whole oevre stashed, of course I would do so in case she always wears that classy kind of shoes I love so much.
So my collection is pretty much a mix of all kinds of porn of any date, but not from the early seventies because women's shoes were mostly to blocky heel-wise which is my worst turn-off !

Reading through this looking for typos and other mistakes I begin to realize again what a creepy weirdo I am...! Uh..., so what !

I organize by model (I limit those I keep) with a prefix of their initials (duplicates can occur), followed by a source (if known) and possibly a sequence number/letter.

Possibly mentioned elsewhere in VEF is VisiPics to help eliminate duplicate images based on content independent of their name.

I have considered using MySql or other Unix based databases to tie them together and have that on my to do list under 'round to it' items. Yeah, real soon now...

Default The way I organize my collection

I often wonder: why collect? What is the use? Collecting tangible and valuable things I understand. Vintage nudie magazines or even modern dvd's: I get it. But digital pictures or movies? Everything is online 24/7, nothing is rare and there's more being produced than anyone will ever be able to save on his hard drive.
Now don't get me wrong: I do collect. Years ago when the Internet was new and expensive, it made perfectly sense to keep your porn available offline. And if you, like me, never throw anything away, the kilobytes become megabytes and then terrabytes. At some point you lose track on what you have and what you don't have. Finding out several times after hours of downloading that I already have that particular movie made me realise: I have to organize! But how?
I started with the pictures. I made folders and subfolders. The Admiral Krag folder was the easy bit. Then Asian, Teens, Ebony, Sex, Hairy and so on. A few famous models have their own folder like Aria Giovanni and Luba Shumeyko (subfolder in Petter Hegre). Sometimes I don't know where to put a picture. Like what to do with black lesbian teens on the beach with strap-on dildo's? Would fit anywhere really. First world problems I know. By far the largest folder is Scans with all the magazines in it. Subfoldered with studios like CCC, Silwa and Seventeen. Also I use the before mentioned ACDSee 32 version 2.42 for sorting, Flexible Renamer for bulk renaming and TreeSize for finding duplicates and txt, html and other trash. The pictures folder is now 15Gb big and contains more than 130.000 pictures devided over 18 subfolders and innumerable subsubfolders.
This was the easy bit. Now for the movies! How to organize them? The goal would be to avoid downloading duplicates, everything easy to find, knowing exactly what you have. Porn movies are almost impossible to put in an accurate collection. Film titles have numerous variations just like the actors. Country and year of production can be unclear. Then there's the different language tracks, softcore/hardcore versions and deleted scenes. Compilation movies, redistributions and all the shit comming from Eastern Europe. Chaos!
So how do I try to organize all this? I have two main folders, just like here on VEF: Classic and Modern. Classic (everything before 1997) being the largest since I love pubic hair and hate fake tits. Both folders have subfolders named after countries like Germany, France, Italy, USA. I make sure I enter the films with their original name, add the year of release and if necessary the language of the audiotrack. So not the studio or distributor, not the director or the stars. Sometimes it is unclear in which country's subfolder I should file a movie. I mean: when an American director with an all Czech cast shoots a film in Rome for a French studio, what do I do? I think that you'd need to build a database in Access to try and make a perfect collection. But I don't want to do that. Next to these two main folders based on the year of release I have some 'genre' folders. Biggest being Gonzo with subfolders like Ben Dover, Ed Powers and Strassenflirts. Others are Softcore, Hairy, Lesbian and some 10 others. Dvd rips usualy come in a folder of their own and then go into the right subfolder. I don't like it but hey what can you do?
Organizing my files like this made me more of a collector. E.g. I noticed that I had several "Junge Debutantinnen" films or a few "Up and Cummers". I then wanted them all. No porn collection ever will be complete. But it is fun from time to time to concentrate on a specific series or year. I'm thinking about giving Kristara Barrington her own subfolder. The Movies folder is now 1.7 terrabytes and has some 2200 movies and clips in it devided over 18 subfolders with lots of subsubfolders.
The pictures I hardly ever look at. There are many films in my collection I have not seen and probably never will. Yet I check in with VEF almost daily to see if there's something of my liking. Often that is the case. This is why I want to thank this community. Especially those behind the scenes who do all the hard and invisible work. This forum is clean, no nonsense and alive. Keep it up! Best regards.

If you have thousands (or tens of thousands) of pictures, this is an absolutely indispensible tool:

http://www.visipics.info

I even use it to find similar/dublicate clips via comparing their screenshots.

I'm in the process of moving my all my movies onto USB drives and intend to make sure these are password protected. Does anyone have experience with freeware like TrueCrypt or could recommend a good alternative?

TrueCrypt is good but it can be a little testy sometimes. I also use this: http://filehippo.com/download_folder_lock/

TrueCrypt, Bitlocker etc completely encrypt the drive so without the password near to impossible to read the data at at all. The encryption / decryption slows down the transfer rate.

You need to decide if you want to go to this level or if password protected / hidden folders will suffice.

Password protected zip / rar files are another option.

Would you say that 'casting' is a subgenre of 'gonzo'?

(asking for a friend)

Default Do you sort your movies, or do you store it in an unique folder?

Hi,

Do you sort your movies, or do you store it in an unique folder?

I am currently trying to sort my collection, but I can't find a perfect way to do it.
So far, I store movies in folders like '70s', '80s', '90s', '2000s' ... but this is not convenient: I have to know the year of the movie I'm looking for, and it may be difficult when it was released in 1989 or 1990 for instance...

Sorting them by 'Vintage' or 'Modern' is also not convenient, because I like Vintage for the plot or sensuality, and some modern movies have it too (and yeah, I have to admit I own some boring movies just because of some specific actresses I like)

Anyway, do you have a specific way to sort your collection ?
