Janis Levy
Janis Levy: Cadbury's Flake Gypsy Girl
Anyone remember the classic Flake ads from the 70's & 80's? This was my fave... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aUTdYsZda8 Anyway, the gorgeous gypsy girl is Janis Levy Anyone have anything on her? I remember she made it to the News Of The Screws by claiming she shagged John McEnroe... and a year or so ago the Scum reported that she was dead... but later issued an apology after she turned up - very alive - on TV that week! |

Update: Janis Levy
Birmingham Mail ~ June 2010
A FORMER Cadbury’s Flake girl has spoken of her sadness that the iconic TV ads have been dropped after 50 years. The Bournville chocolate giant has ditched the Flake girl commercials in favour of a more “modern” campaign. Gone, too, is the infamous jingle “Only the crumbliest, flakiest chocolate, tastes like chocolate never tasted before...” loved by millions of viewers. The new £3.5 million ad campaign aired last night on digital station E4 and features Russian ballerina Yulia Lobova wearing a yellow dress the same colour as the chocolate wrapper – but definitely no suggestive eating of the chocolate bar. Former flake girl Janis Levy, who starred as a sultry gypsy girl walking through a field of sunflowers before hopping on to a horse-drawn caravan, said she it was “an end of an era”. “It is a real shame,” said Janis, who was 16 when she starred in the ad in 1985. “They were such special adverts in that they appealed to both sexes. Every red-blooded male loved the flake girls, and it was one of those ads that had a real sense of escapism for women. It will be interesting to see the new adverts.” Janis later lived in LA for many years, where she rubbed shoulders with movie stars including Sylvester Stallone and Joan Collins, and now runs a hair extension firm in London called Hair Development. “Its been 25 years since I starred in them but I still get recognised,” the 41-year-old added. The new Flake campaign, which can be seen on terrestrial TV from this week, took three weeks to make, and Cadbury marketing director Phil Rumbol said a team had spent eight months working on a “fresh, contemporary” campaign. He said: “We wanted to focus on the beauty of the product rather than just the sensuality of eating it.” Trivia The Sun newspaper reported that she had died suddenly aged 40 in Oct 2008, which not came as a huge shock to fans of the model, but also to Janis - who was alive and well and living in London. She spoke of her upset at the mistake. "To read your own obituary is bizarre to say the least,'' she said. ''Now I want the world to know I am very much alive and well and enjoying life as much as I ever did." Last edited by VintageKell; March 29th, 2015 at 12:47 PM.. Reason: overtext |

She worked in LA for some years and apparently knocked about with Sylvester Stallone and Joan Collins while working for NBC in LA .... but I damned if I can find anything for that time. She did two TV guest slots in the UK in 2007 and 2009.
This is the only other picture I could find .... |
