She was an American dancer (1923-2000) of British stock who appeared in a fair few films after her breakthrough on Broadway in the fifties.

Like some other notable dancers she also took up ballet originally to strengthen legs left weak by rickets.

She was also the second wife of legendary choreographer Bob Fosse.
