Her Name was Lola
.
I have a confession. Years ago I was watching some TV show or movie, and a woman came on screen, and I halted in my tracks. I thought she looked spectacular, and her name was Lola Albright, and man — was she sexy. Albright, as she appeared in the main film discussed below. As time passed, whenever I ventured upon another screen appearance of hers, I could see my opinion was justified. Such a lovely, lovely lady, and given reason to see whether she had a thread devoted to her here at VEF, I was surprised to see this thread (begun by Member "Sohtatexas" in 2008; of note is that the birth year of 1925 he presented appears to be a year earlier) is only two pages long. So let me 'splain why this post about Lola is being prepared, because it's so much fun (for me). There is an actress I've been thinking about preparing a post for, named Judith Loomis. When I visited her IMDb page, I noticed she had only two screen credits, and as I'm thinking of putting up an exploration of her on the "Classic American Lesser Known Celebrities" thread, I wanted to dig up her second credit, a film that is called Lord Love a Duck, from 1966. (This film is an unusual satire of '60s culture; here is a nice commentary about its trailer from Director John Landis.) So I succeeded in finding a copy, and then out popped a lady who grabbed my eye. Then another lady grabbed my eye, forcing me to go off the plan, and to prepare a post about her. (This is a trap I've fallen into more than once at Vintage Erotica Forum. Setting out to prepare a post on one woman leads to a post that was completely unplanned for.) The second lady turned out to be a Playboy playmate, and if you're curious, here's that post. (I still haven't been able to get around to poor Judith Loomis.) Anyway, here is the appearance of the first lady who really grabbed my eye; notice how commanding she looked, that is, commanding of one's attention: I had no idea who she was. The lady turned out to be... Lola Albright! (Obviously, I would make a lousy witness for the cops. How is it possible I wasn't able to recognize this woman who possesses such a rare and wonderful essence?) Lola received the best actress award at the Berlin Film Festival for portraying Tuesday Weld’s suicidal mother. (Tuesday, by the way, was ludicrously captivating in this film, demonstrating ducks are obviously not the only thing the Lord loves.) Some other views; Lola had a "bathtub" scene. Now Lola is too special to leave this post alone with a film that was past her "glamour" period, where she was forty-two-years old. Some other photos from the web, to continue our exploration, beginning with her role of singer Edie Hart, the apple of the eye of private eye Craig Stevens, on the Blake Edwards NBC-ABC series Peter Gunn (with the famed killer theme song, by Henry Mancini). (That last photo, by the way, can be had for the bargain price of around forty-five dollars, down from its usual two hundred bucks, as offered by this site. Are they out of their minds?) Here she is, looking so extremely delightful, from The Money Jungle (1967), with its tag line, "At Stake...TEN BILLION DOLLARS! In the Most Bizarre Crime Caper Ever Conceived!" (At least this photo goes for a more reasonable fifteen dollars. Do people actually buy photos as these?) Lola, by the way, was a real-live singer, as well; it's said she studied piano for 20 years. With Jack Elam in Bonanza's 1967 episode of "A Bride for Buford." He's a miner who strikes it rich, and she's a saloon girl who professes interest in him. Dan Blocker's Hoss puts on his fanciest duds in order to court Albright, in hopes of exposing her gold-digging ways. Look at how radiant she appears in the first shot. In the 1963 episode of "Granny's Spring Tonic," The Beverly Hillbillies' Miss Hathaway has a bank protégé who professes interest in Jed Clampett, the one with $34 million in the kitty. Guess who plays the gold-digger. A couple of sexy shots: As she appeared near the end of her life, which was fortunately a long one. Lola Albright died at the age of ninety-two, in 2017. .
