Be glad that you have lime marmalade. I have never seen that at any local or specialty food market in Chicago. I can get lime yougurt and lime jello and even lime ice cream, but not lime jam, jelly or marmalade!

You have been cruelly deprived TM! It is a thing of great delight and pleasure, well if you like limes that is! What about lemon?

By either means the stores/markets would never go for it. If mechanically they would then need to purchase dozens and dozens of so-equipped shopping carts, and that's not going to happen. If physically they would need to assign a store employee to man the operation, and that's out of the question. As it is stores/markets are trying to make due with less employees -- some stores may have as many as 10-12 checkout registers, but only 3-4 of them are in operation on any given day! They may send an employee out to the parking lot perhaps only twice a day to collect the shopping carts left scattered about by lazy customers. On certain days when pulling into the parking lot one must actually navigate around the array of abandoned shopping carts -- it looks like a battle ground of shopping carts!

Now I know for sure the stores/markets around here would never purchase that special equipment.

I first saw it in the supermarkets in Israel when I was with the UN-that was 1999-so the equipment has been around at least that long. I would have thought that the saving in aggravation and the cost in time for employees to round up the errant trolleys, corrall them and return them to the proximity of the store would justify the outlay on the coin release units.
