Condition 1 is called "cocked and locked", proponents state a fraction of a second is the difference between life and death. You won't change the mind of a Jeff Cooper follower.

If you are a professional bodyguard perhaps, but mostly I hear of grandmas dropping their purse and the pistol going off, or a young kid accidently pulling a trigger on a parent, etc. Carrying a pistol with a round in the chamber, a revolver with all cylinders loaded, there will be accidents. Carrying a pistol with no round in the chamber, a revolver with the hammer down on an empty cylinder, there will be less accidents.

The Israelis know what they are doing and if they can survive on Condition 3, our herd of non-professional gun owners - if they can legally carry - should also follow their lead.

Rigorous firearm training should be part of the public education curriculum.

Only if you are rigorously trained. You're an average Joe, a mugger starts pulling out a gun in front of you, are you fast enough to rack that slide? Maybe not.

Also, what if you only have one hand free, because you are grappling with some guy who is trying to knock you down or knife you? You won't be racking that slide then.

The whole point of having a pistol is that you can grab it and fire immediately, because when you need it, you need it RIGHT NOW.

And the fact is, probably a majority of people should not tote guns around, because they lack the sort of motor control and common sense to properly use (or not use) one when they get into a sticky situation.

Most of us boys had hunter safety training as young lads. Helps some.

Some schools around here have target shooting rifle clubs too.

All that of course is extracurricular.

You'd have to have an entire semester long course in quasi-military training, and justify it on grounds of preparing the youth for national defense, in order to get students really familiar with guns. Sort of like ROTC, but more into the basics, and mandatory.

And a lot of parents would throw a screaming fit if you forced their children to take such training.

"My Johnny is going to have a successful career as a lawyer, and you want to train him to be some sort of military thug? Oh, no you don't!"

The school board would be overthrown in short order. That sort of thing would never fly.

Cop body cam video of shooting at a little barking dog and instead hitting a 9 year old girl.

I guess his explanation wasn't any good so he's fired and Wichita will probably be paying out a ton of money.

Trigger happy people should not be cops.

I love this comment "The The cop did not "shoot a little girl instead of the family dog". A bullet fragment ricochet and hit her above the eye, she was discharged from hospital a day later, and so was the dog." So that's all right then..

Cops have batons and pepper spray, that ought to be what you use to deter an angry little dog.

If it was a Rottweiler or something, that might be a different story.

I have never seen a little dog that I was afraid of so much that it needed to be shot!!!!

If it was as large as a Rotty he would of had a much bigger target!!

Here is a video of a man getting angry at a restaurant, going back to the kitchen, punching a lady, getting a weapon (?) pointed at him and retreating.

If it was a pistol, too bad she didn't shoot.

Shooting him unless he persisted with the attack would have been murder, not self-defence. But for certain he should have been tracked down, arrested and sent to prison for an act of common assault. The sentence should reflect that the CCTV footage shows intent to continue the attack and commit a much more severe assault; the other worker with her gun thwarted him in that very clear intent. If the police can't find this person with such clear CCTV footage to assist them, they aren't much good.

The guy is supposedly a well known violent drug dealer. The woman with the CCW quit that night from fear of retribution. If she had shot as he was following up on his punch, no jury in the US would have convicted her. Giving him a warning may be more humane, but apparently most people believe she is going to pay for standing up to him.

The fact that waitresses at that location have the boss's permission to conceal carry is rather damning.
