I remember the original showing on BBC but I watched it because my Dad was well into Zen at the time and I thought that it was something to do with that 'religion'. Must have been the little pearls of wisdom scattered through the narrative. Also, the gorgeous female character (Princess something or other?) attracted me no end!

The Buddhist monk Tripitaka played by Masako Natsume and yeah I thought she was gorgeous too. Sadly she died really young, from leukaemia I think.

Having seen it I think Ridley wants to re-assess this series of films direction. As an action movie it is sound but without wanting to include spoilers it's becoming more about the motives of the androids now than the actual murderous Xenomorphs we fans know and love.

I've been onto a cinema website, and have looked at all the films that coming soon from now until the end of the year.

And if I'm honest, there's hardly ANYTHING really catches my attention.

It's mostly sequels, remakes, super-heroes or action films to be.

There's only about three films that genuinely interest me.

War for the Planet of the Apes:

I've seen the previous two Ape films (Rise and Dawn), and I'm really like this take on the franchise. What I love about these films is that they've got rid of the more fantastical elements of the original films (time-traveling astronauts, psychic mutants etc) and placed it in a gritty, more realistic environment.

Another one (and this one I didn't knew anything about until I saw it on the website).

Stephen King's IT:

Actually, I've never read the original book, but I have seen the 2-part TV adaption they did back in the early 90's (the one that had Tim Curry in it), and it's one of those stories that's always entertained me.
I've never really been into horror stories on a big scale, but this is one of the few that I quite liked!

The other is the next Transformers movie, called The Last Knight:

Do you know what I like about this trailer?

It's got Anthony Hopkins!

I was a bit surprised to see him in this because, apart from the Thor movies I don't think he's the kind of venerable actor who's really into crash-bang films.
But like I said, he did Thor and it's sequel, so he's full of surprises!

In Red2 he played a mad scientist and set off a small atomic bomb, does that count?

Netflix is currently producing a 10-episodes series based on 1983's The Dark Crystal. That's good news.
