Gallipoli was a clusterfuck ordered by that butcher Haig who was probanly responsible for more brit and ANZAC deaths than the Kaiser

No, it wasn't, Comrade. Haig had nothing to do with it. You can blame many things on him, but not Gallipoli. Try Churchill

I hope you do not believe the Haig/Churchill contention has any relevance. Very early on Haig was sure the only method of victory would be to advance infantry steadily towards beltfed machine guns. The definition of victory in a war of attrition is they kill nine hundred and ninty nine thoudand nine hundred and ninety nine of ours but we kill a million of theirs then we have won.
If the only oder is for the poor bloody infantry to advance over the course of a five year war it doesnt matter a flying fuck whose mouth it comes out of.

Yes, I do

Clearly the two were different. Churchill hated the France War and wanted a different solution. He had no idea what he was talking about in 1915. Haig was a bullshi**er, and would tell anyone anything, no matter how many lives it cost. He also had no idea what he was talking about

But Haig had nothing to do with Gallipoli. In January 1915 when the decision was made, no one asked him

...it could pay to be "hit by a trolley", if the right person is pushing it

Yes, it's true - look:

"Coles has lost its appeal against a court ruling that it pay nearly $500,000 in damages to a woman who was hit by a trolley in one of its supermarkets.
Maria Haleluka, 51, was awarded the damages in the NSW District Court last year after she was struck by the box-laden trolley that was being pushed by a Coles employee at Kellyville in Sydney's northwest."

I'd be wandering about out in the outback trying to find a naked Jenny Agutter like I've seen in that tourist film by Nicholas Roeg!

Saw a very cool, recently re-discovered film called "Wake in Fright" about a schoolteacher in an Outback town. Its a wild picture of very drunk people, not exactly flattering to Australia, but with some really amazing scenes of pub life, including the old gambling game "two up" (which I've heard about, but never seen played).

Great performance by Donald Pleasance as a doctor who's gone to seed: "I'm a doctor of medicine and a tramp by temperament"

At first it seems like its just a bit of drunkenness, but after you watch for a while, you realize its about the idea of men and their mates, which is a very Australian concept. A schoolteacher with the hero's manners, if he were in an equivalent American town, would not be received nearly so cheerfully.
