Nothing much happens in this sort of meandering medieval thing until the hour ten mark. Have half an hour left. Seems to be returning to the meandering mode again. Still it`s more than alright to have on in the background.
That's not a bad movie,It's the only English speaking movie about the Thirty Years War that I know of.As I recall it does liven up a bit toward the end.

Well it`s better than Spice World that`s for sure

Not that I've ever watched that , nor own it on Blu Ray , honest

Finished Last Valley now.
Was certainly decent-ish enough.
Do feel it was a bit of a lost opportunity though. Sort of how 13th Warrior was entertaining (I felt) yet directionally and editorially missed the mark it`s cast were more than capable of reaching.

Pacific Heights (1990)

Trailer

Not sure how to label this flick except maybe as a real estate thriller. The plot is weak and most of the characters unconvincing. Matthew Modine is an actor I respect but his performance here is a huge disappointment. His screen flame Melanie Griffith is slightly better but it doesn't help this rather forgettable entry by John Schlesinger. As for the character portrayed by Michael Keaton, I expected much more because it was supposed to be the story's psychologically most complex character. But I wouldn't attribute the shortcomings to Mr. Keaton. The problems lies with the writers.

Drake Goodman (Matthew Modine) and Patty Palmer (Melanie Griffith) are a couple living in San Francisco. Determined to invest in real estate, they buy an expensive Victorian house in Frisco's fancy Pacific Heights neighborhood. Their first tenants are the Watanabes, an older Japanese couple. Not long after, they're visited by Carter Hayes (Michael Keaton) who shows interest in one of the remaining apartment but refuses to undergo a credit check as expected by the fresh landlords. He convinces Goodman to accept him as a tenant based on a list of personal references and his offer to pay the first six months' rent in advance and by wire transfer. But Hayes moves in unnanounced one morning and shuts himself into the apartment, also changing the locks. Meanwhile Goodman and Palmer haven't seen any of the money Hayes was supposed to pay. They grow impatient and attempt to throw him out but Hayes is a cunning little bastard who has it all figured out and begins to destroy the young couple's lives by turning the law against them...

Haunted 1995

I watched this film on DVD last night and really enjoyed it.
Some pretty eerie moments without the usual blood and cheap shocks of later ghost and 'horror' films and a twist in the tale as well.
Kate Beckinsale is gorgeous throughout.

Who'd thought the genteel world of show doggery was so fraught. How do I keep missing these gems when the come to the theatre?

Hi there. I get 3 new movies each week from Netflix. This is a service that mails movies in the form of DVD discs each week to subscribers, or for a small fee you can get an electronic box that will allow Netflix to send the movies directly to your t.v I have been using Netflix since 2010. I am going to now be putting in this thread the three movies that I get each week. I watched all 3 for this week yesterday. The first one was crap so I won't mention it. The second movie is called : The Lady in the Van. It stars Maggie Smith and was made in London. She plays a homeless women who lives in her van and one day decides to park it in the driveway of a man. The man just happens to be a writer and over 14 years he writes about her. It is an unusual but very good movie. Maggie Smith is always a wonderful actress no matter what role she is playing. The movie has a surprise ending. The third movie is American and is called :Hail Caesar, and stars Josh Brolin as a movie executive for the fictitious Capitol Movie Studios sometime in the early 1950's. The movie has an unusal plot. One thing about it is that you see many well known actors and actresses playing scenes in their movies. George Clooney plays a Roman tribune who witnesses the crucifixtion of Christ. You see scenes from several musicals, and westerns, and other types of films. One actor in a film I did not recognize at first either because of his age or his makeup. Then I realized who he is because of his voice. I am really good with voices. It is Christopher Lambert the actor who made those Highlander movies and other sci-fi/fantasy films. This is a very good, unique film. See it!!

Yes, that was a great movie. The scene where Clooney's character is speechifying before The Cross is memorable.
