Any onlookers would have been in a studio. Does anyone else notice the fake aspect to these, in that they were almost certainly shot in a studio then literally cut and pasted onto a countryside background. They then did a bit of retouching to merge the figure and background together (as best they could in a pre Photoshop era). Much of the black dress is almost entirely painted in by the retoucher. They superimposed studio shot models onto an outdoor background fairly frequently, and it was always easy to spot.

Interesting point there, Trouser. The main giveaway is the lighting, which is flat and totally wrong. I've seen a lot worse than this (fingers chopped off, hair at right angles etc) in other places, in the 'old days'.

S & S didn't do this that often. One of the main appeals of the mags were the outside shots, which generally did tend to be taken.....outside.

You are totally correct Trouser and on reexamination of the pics I posted can see exactly what you mean. Very contrived ! Oh how stupid I feel with my remarks about onlookers. I take consolation in Medium2's remarks that most alfresco sets were genuine. Nick

I found this image on an old disk and thought it bears a resemblance
to Ann Duke. Clearly a younger version with much longer hair. The shot
looks very much like other studio pics that appear earlier in this thread.

What do you think?

I don't think the girl in Posting 1314 is Anne Duke. I've seen her in other photo sets under the name of Jackie West. But I could be wrong. Nick

I tend to agree that they're different girls. Same location, though.

First, thanks to Nick for the feedback on Anne Duke and pointing me
in the direction of Jackie West.
I still think it`s possible they are one and the same
given Toco`s habit of giving one model different names.
I`ll have a closer examination and see if I can eliminate or otherwise.

In the meantime, I`ve been following the discussion on whether the location
of some interior shots are at Nicola Taylor`s own house.
I think it`s a distinct possibility and I`d like to take that a step further.
Could Nicola actually be the wife of the photographer or
in other way close to him? I say this as I`ve been looking
more closely at pics of Nicola and Marie Graham for possible image enhancements.
I`ve noticed that Nicola usually looks more poised and
professionally posed than her counterparts who
sometimes look a little awkward and not quite so relaxed.
It`s already been suggested that the other girls might be
friends of Nicola so that could still be the case.

This is getting a little long winded, so I`ll leave it to your thoughts
and later come up with some examples, if you folks are still interested.
