Windows 10?

I have Windows 7 and have an 'opitional' update from Windows and part of the description says this, "There is no GWX or upgrade functionality contained in this update." I just find it too funny that they have to reassure their customers about an update.

Kaspersky Lab seems to strongly disagree with Microsoft's attitude.

Kaspersky Lab has applied to the European Commission and the German Federal Cartel Office seeking their consideration of Microsoft’s actions with regards to compliance with the respective articles of the antitrust legislation, concerning abuse of its dominant position in the market for computer operating systems and unfair competition in the market for solutions for protecting against computer threats.

According to Kaspersky:

"With the release of Windows 10, Microsoft started to create obstacles to competing manufacturers of security solutions, and introduce different ways of pushing users to forgo third-party software in favor of its own Windows Defender. These actions by Microsoft lead to a lower level of protection for users, a limitation on their right to choose, and financial losses both for users and security solutions manufacturers."

oh yes, i went round and round with this gwx push (more like thug action). i see that the win8 rollout was a flop, so MS used a thug business model to force win7 users to get windows 10 installed involuntarily via update KBs. i just said "linux or vista for me" after trying to rid the gwx from win7 PCs in my library.so, i took the windows 7 machines offline until this debacle gets straightened out. I really believe that MS isn't going to be happy until all windows OS prior to 10 is scrapped.I don't trust their updates at all, given the hidden crap they bundle in there with them.

Being on Win 10/64 bit for about one year the past few months I had to suffer from "blue screens" nearly in every session of several hours being online. Messages for reason are like Bad Pool Caller, DPS Watch Dog Violation, System Thread Exception Not Handled, or the like. When researching I noticed that these messages were mainly related to Win 7 or Win 8 and driver conflicts with new installed programs.

I suspect that I bought a PC having installed a minor Win version originally, and then it was upgraded/updated faultily to Win 10 (frequent updates of Win 10 are still working though).

Does anybody know a way to solve this problem without having to install a completely new Win 10? I would be very thankful then.

My Advise: Sit it out! Windows 10 is supposed to be a Semi-Rolling-Release so MICROSOFT will let it's Users find out Errors and Bugs - i wrote my thoughts about that in an earlier post.

You can tell MICROSOFT about your Problems, but i don't know where (?MICROSOFT-Support?).

You could also search on alternativeto for an Alternative of the specific Program(s) you use.

If nothing of the above works out for you, then you will have to backup your (personal)Data and reinstall WINDOWS or if you're not a "Gamer" then have an look here or also here(scroll down for the free CORE-Version) for Alternatives to WINDOWS!

27 June 2017 • 10:26am Fears have been raised that Britain’s largest ever warship could be vulnerable to cyber attacks after it emerged it appears to be running the outdated Microsoft Windows XP.


As HMS Queen Elizabeth left its dockyard for the first time to begin sea trials, it was revealed the £3.5billion aircraft carrier is apparently using the same software that left the NHS exposed.


Screens inside a control room on the ship, which is the largest vessel ever built for the Royal Navy, reportedly displayed Microsoft Windows XP - copyright 1985 to 2001.


But Michael Fallon, the Defence Secretary, insisted the ship's systems were safe because security around the computer software on the aircraft carrier is "properly protected".

Does that mean that they running "their embedded XP-System" in an VirtualMachine
Maybe with Windows Server 2003 as Host

The majority of PCs used by the London Metropolitan Police are still running Windows XP, which has been completely unsupported since 2014.
The London Metropolitan Police are still using around 18,000 PCs powered by Windows XP which truly is a horrifying number.
The police force has already started upgrading its PCs from Windows XP — but rather than upgrading to Windows 10, the force is upgrading
the PCs to Windows 8.1 instead.
The force was initially planning to get all of the Windows XP PCs to Windows 8 by March 2016 but that was a failed attempt.

Right now, more than 14,000 PCs are powered by Windows 8.1 at the London Metropolitan Police service.

And what about Windows 10? Only 8 PCs at the police force are powered by the most secure version of Windows right now.

Steve O’Connell, the spokesman of the Conservative London Assembly said in a statement:

“The Met is working towards upgrading its software, but in its current state it’s like a fish swimming in a pool of sharks.
It is vital the Met is given the resources to step up its upgrade timeline before we see another cyber-attack with nationwide
security implications.”

From the looks of things, the London Metropolitan Police will continue to upgrade their systems to Windows 8.1 at the moment.
Windows 8.1 is still being supported by Microsoft, although the mainstream support for the OS is set to end on the 9 January 2018.
Microsoft will offer extended support for the OS until 2023, which means Windows 8.1 is still a much more secure alternative for
the Metropolitan Police than Windows XP.

Windows 10 still would have been the best option in terms of security, however.
Microsoft is releasing security updates for the OS every month, and the new advanced security features like Windows Defender Advanced
Threat Protection makes PCs running Windows a whole lot more secure.

18,000 PCs running Windows XP is still quite horrifying — especially considering all the recent ransomware attacks.
Just yesterday, the “Petya” ransomware attacked PCs and big organizations all around the world.

And let’s not forget the impact of WannaCry, which took down the majority of the systems at the UK’s National Health Service.

Like the NHS UK’s police service also has access to a large amount of private information about the citizens of London, and
running a completely outdated version of the OS not only opens the service and Londoners up to random hacks but also specific
attacks by malicious forces.

Let’s hope the service gets their cyber-ducks in order before they have a major incident rather than after.

Various UK governments pay millions to MS to continue supporting their out of date systems. I suspect that most of their hardware will be over 10 years old which would be problematic if upgrading to Windows 10.
