Whatever happened to the Blakeney Twins ? they were a kind of Aussie version of the Cheeky Girls .

Last thing I saw was with Des on Take Your Pick

I just checked the IMDb and they appeared with Des way back in 1992, 20 years ago.

I guess they tried to do a Kylie and trade on their Neighbours fame in the UK, the only problem was that they had no where near the talent of Kylie, last acting job was back in 1995, nothing since.

Perhaps one of the reasons for their lack of work is that they will only appear together, and i suppose there is not that much work for identical twins.

They are now 45 years old, maybe they have quit acting altogether?

Aussie Soap Babes

The Aussies have been heavy into soaps for a long long time.
"Autumn Affair " started in 1958.... "Bellbird " 1967.
They were pretty safe, middle of the road soap operas, it
was nt until the soap ...."Number 96 " aired in 1972 that they started to shake things up.

" Number 96 " dealt with such topics as drug addiction, rape, homosexuallity, and the soap became famous for its sex scenes and nudity....the Aussies had never seen anything like it !
" The Box " was another racy soap that rivalled " Number 96 " for its hot scenes of sex and nudity.

"The Sullivans " came along in 1976... " The Young Doctors " started in the same year .

But then, shock horror..... in 1977 "Bellbird " " Number 96 "
and "The Box " were all given the chop !!!
There were long queques of soap actors signing on the dole that year !!

But then along came ....
" The Restless Years " 1977
" Prisoner Cell Block H " 1979
" Sons and Daughters " 1981
" Neighbours " 1985
" Home and Away " 1988
" Richmond Hill " 1988
" E Street " 1989
" Chances " 1991 ( Chances was to prove as raunchy as " The Box " )
"Paradise Beach" 1995
" Pacific Drive " 1995

Perhaps "Home and Away " and " Neighbours " have been the biggest international hits for the Aussies and both are still going strong in the UK.
Even the BBC commissioned the Aussies to make a soap
for them............"Out of the Blue " ...... to air in 2008.

(Funny how the UK never got... No96 or The Box.....
I wonder why ? )

No. 96 ... believe it or not ... is 40 years old !

Reading that article states that Aussie TV studios were destroying old soap episodes, prob wiping the vid tapes
( a bit like what the BBC was doing over here, wiping video tape
to use again and in the process destroying tons of classic TV )
