Modern Porn is "forced" boring, mostly a comedy, no natural girls, lot's of horrible tattos, terrible boob jobs, cheap "orgasms" only cinema.

There's good and bad porn in any era but "golden age" porn (basically mid 70s thru to early VHS era) represented a time when hard core was still forbidden in wider society (and certainly not something kids saw at all unlike today with the internet) but in terms of quality it had graduated from cheap stag flicks and had started to attract attractive counter-culture types brought up on the "free love" tropes of the late 60s. It kicked off with Deep Throat in 1972 which got shown in suburban cinemas. Women liked it and suddenly porn was no longer the domain of Times Square and unshaven men in trench coats. Porno "chic" made porn popular yet it remained subversive and dangerous. Real directors were attracted to the medium. So by the late 70s we get the high point with the 35 mm cinematic porn made by a raft of French porn "auteurs" which surpasses anything made before or since in terms of the beauty and naturalness of the women, the sexual frisson on screen and the technical quality of the films themselves (direction, camera work, stories, image quality etc). Today everyone in porn is coming at it from such a jaded and over exposed position that whatever they do has all been done before and better and they know it. It's all about money and your 15 seconds of fame. I mean any 18 year old wannabe porno starlet today is so inured of porn and sex that they are already either burnt out cynics or slick professionals before they've even started their actual porno career. If you look at 70s porn (French and US especially) the players are usually enjoying themselves. The women were natural - no fake or augmented anything. There was real humor and fun and a palpable sense of subversion that is totally vanished. Porn today is mainstream to the point of banality and the porn business is all too knowing and cynical which is reflected in what is (or is not) made. In the 70s it was a cottage trade - there was no vast commercial industry behind it all run by humorless accountants and managers (even CC was basically a two man operation for years despite maintaining an outward appearance of corporate "solidity"). I suppose the main reason I return to porn of the 70s is that I was a young man when the golden age started so that is my personal reference point and I just find very little since then measures up. (Especially the women)

Why do I prefer vintage erotica? Wow, that's a great question and one that I could never answer with any sense of brevity. However, I'll do my best to my best.

It would probably help to offer some context before I dive in. I'm in my late twenties and was brought up in a strict catholic family and grew up in Puerto Rico. That is almost as prude as it gets. When I was in my teens, I used to look at modern or contemporary erotica and it was alright; the key word being alright. Sure, you have attractive women and actual intercourse, but many things about it bothered me. Some of the things shown in modern pornography really disturb me. Stuff like choking, ejaculation on the face and slapping in the face really bother me. I always thought, "I would never treat a woman with whom I was being intimate like that in bed."

On top of that, nobody ever looks like they are enjoying themselves. It's really rare to see a new erotic video where the models involved are actually having fun. For an activity that involves the mixing of bodily fluids, it just looks very calculated and sterile. I think the fact that porn in general is not as taboo as it once was presents fewer boundaries for the industry to push in terms of the actual enjoyment of doing it. In years past, it was much more taboo, so the whole notion of pushing those boundaries or potentially being seen and pointed out in everyday life probably added to the excitement and fun factor of doing it.

To add to the subject of the look of modern day pornography, the models of today do not wear clothes that are especially flattering to me. Call me old fashioned, but I think a blouse with skirt or a full dress on a woman is more attractive that what you see models wear today. The female fashions of yesteryear were just sexier and had clear-cut womanly edge; there is a power and class about it. This even applies to the undergarments and swimsuits of years past.

There were other things that bothered me that I suppose had to do with my growing into a man and thus desiring women, as opposed to girls. Even though the women in modern porn were of age, most insist on shaving all of their pubic hair. Not all models do this, I know, but it's more than the majority of the models. The reason I have an issue of that because I believe that's one of the things that makes a woman... well, a woman. The natural allure of a lady's pubic is very arousing because of its feel, look and its ability to obscure a view of the vulva. Even when a lady is completely naked, there is still something left to the imagination.

Artificial augmentation is another issue I have with modern erotica. It's really saddening and depressing to see women artificially modifying their bodies, not being satisfied with how they developed. That is an instant turnoff.


I eventually tried looking for just soft-core erotica to try avoiding all these things. I eventually stumbled across a site called the Big Breast Archive. I'm not sure if it still operates, but that site was part of a huge turning point for me. It used to have an A-Z index of naturally large breasted models, which was great for me as a fan of curves. I just wanted something real and honest.




However, something clicked in my brain when I got to the Gs. Looking into the profile of the late 50s - early 60s model by the name of Georgia Holden. None of the photos of her were nude, but I didn't care. It was so arousing to look upon this incredibly gorgeous woman, not being able to believe that she existed and modeled so long ago. The moment I saw her lovely face and gorgeous body, I took the plunge into vintage and haven't really looked back.

The erotica of yesteryear is just more interesting and sexier. The women have a natural beauty about them and had style. I love how women wore their hair in decades past. From the shoulder length way hair of the 40s to the bouffants in the 70s, hair looked great back then. Speaking of hair, woman kept their pubic hair intact with very few exceptions [June Palmer, Lillian Parker] and would rarely show it. But when they did, it was an incredibly pleasant surprise.

There is an honesty about it and the ladies are all natural. No fake breasts, no fake butt, no fake lips, no fake anything. They look like they are enjoying being lovely in front of camera and perhaps delightfully naughty, going against the constrictive social norms of their times. These are people that I love learning about and would perhaps like to meet/talk with them about their time in the business. It would be fun and fascinating.

That's not the way I feel about modern pornstars. They, as a whole, can't stack up to the gals of decades past and I think that's why they do all of that stuff I cannot stand. The more they do it, the more I gravitate to the vintage way of things.

Present day porn, although generally of better visual quality, can be very predictable and often rather sterile. Every current 20 minute clip seems to run through the same set of positions and actions. It's rather like a wedding photographer working through a picture taking schedule and getting all the standard shots.

Actors- men and women, are often covered in tattoos or wearing stupid metal attachments which I really dislike and unfortunately some of these people are just not very sexy, even when they would be considered good looking.

Some of the women from the 50s-80s, just seem to be having a more exciting time fucking and I personally don't mind some pubic hair if it doesn't look like a jungle.

The clothes worn in vintage films are often more interesting, some of the people taking part can actually act and there is usually a story of some sort that holds things together.

And finally, there can be a naughty or erotic element to the material, which is hard to describe, but gives everything a real lift. Does anyone agree that Vera Miles looked really hot at the start of Psycho (1960), despite showing nothing much of note? That's the kind of thing I mean.
