Default Goldfinger Premiere

A rather poor quality pic of Honor attending the above event.

Enjoy

Default The University of Chichester . . .

. . . had what looks like an Avengers con last weekend, and Honor Blackman was there. Here's a link to the link and photo I've posted in the thread for The Avengers.

She looks good for a lady born in 1927.

I think this is the Brit edition of the LP. A friend of mine used to have a copy of the American edition (and maybe he still does -- haven't seen him in a long time), which had a different cover. That was long enough ago that all I recall of it was that she was standing up, rather than seated.

I assume that on the LP she sang the Rogers & Hart song, "Everything I've Got (Belongs to You)," from their musical By Jupiter. I'm not sure if the LP came out before or after Goldfinger (Later: apparently the American edition came out at the same time or shortly afterward -- see the P.S. below), but the lyrics could fit either Kathy Gale or Pussy Galore, being suited to a woman you do not want to mess with:

I have eyes for you to give you dirty looks.
I have words that do not come from children's books
there's a trick with a knife I'm learning to do
And ev'rything I've got belongs to you.
I've a powerful anesthesia in my fist,
And the perfect wrist to give your neck a twist.
There are hammerlock holds,
I've mastered a few,
And ev'rything I've got belongs to you.
Share for share, share alike,
You get struck each time I strike.
You for me- me for me-
I'll give you plenty of nothing.
I'm not yours for better but for worse,
And I've learned to give the well-known witches' curse.
I've a terrible tongue, a temper for two,
And ev'rything I've got belongs to you.

That's the part sung by a woman in the musical. There's a second set of lines sung in response by the man she's singing to, but the woman's part is the one usually sung by singers (usually female) who want to do an up-tempo number that's witty and not lovey-dovey.

I've never heard the record. Maybe the verses were altered to add something about karate . . .

P.S. Someone on eBay is selling a copy of what I think is the American edition of the LP, complete with pics of the front and back cover:

I see that the front cover makes the time of release obvious: coinciding with the release of Goldfinger or shortly afterward. Since the bidding for the LP starts at almost 75 beans, I think I'll pass. (Someone on Amazon is trying to get a similar amount for the CD, which has the same cover posted by George Anson above.) I think my increasingly murky memory recalled the pic of the lady on the back cover as being on the front cover (see my remark above about her standing up on the cover, instead of being seated).

And I see that "Everything I've Got" is on the album, as is another song by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, this time from their musical A Connecticut Yankee, based on the Mark Twain novel of almost the same name, and that's another song fit to be sung by a woman you do not want to cross. Here're the lyrics:

I've been married and married,
and often I've sighed,
I'm never a bridesmaid,
I'm always the bride,
I never divorced them,
I hadn't the heart,
Yet, remember those sweet words,
"Till death do us part."

I married many men, a ton of them,
And yet I was untrue to none of them,
Because I bumped off ev'ry one of them
To keep my love alive.

Sir Paul was frail, he looked a wreck to me.
At night he was a horse's neck to me,
So I performed an appendectomy,
To keep my love alive!

Sir Thomas had insomnia,
He couldn't sleep at night,
I bought a little arsenic,
He's sleeping now all right.

Sir Philip played the harp, I cussed the thing.
I crowned him with his harp to bust the thing,
And now he plays where harps are just the thing,
To keep my love alive,
To keep my love alive.

I thought Sir George had possibilities,
But his flirtations made me ill at ease,
And when I'm ill at ease, I kill at ease
To keep my love alive.

Sir Charles came from a sanatorium,
And yelled for drinks in my emporium.
I mixed one drink, he's in memoriam,
To keep my love alive!

Sir Francis was a singing bird,
A nightingale, that’s why
I tossed him off my balcony
To see if he could fly.

Sir Athelstane indulged in fratricide,
he killed his dad and that was patricide.
One night I stabbed him by my mattress side,
To keep my love alive,
To keep my love alive.

Somewhat to my surprise, she has been in a number of musicals across the pond. Here are some album covers, again "borrowed" from eBay:

Nunsense crossed the pond and played on Broadway in, I think, the 1990s, though I didn't see it. If Honor was still in it, no mention was made of the fact in the commercials for the show which appeared on TV at the time. I wonder what parts she and Petula Clark played in the 1981 London revival of The Sound of Music. Even 30 years ago, they'd both be a bit old to play Maria.

Aside from singing, here're a double CD of the lady reading, and another song on a CD single:

Correction: I had earlier assumed that the CD single immediately above was a reading, but it's actually a song. YouTube has a video of her singing it. You can also hear "Everything I've Got" and "To Keep My Love Alive" there in several renditions (Ella Fitzgerald, Vikki Carr, Blossom Dearie, Elaine Stritch), though not by Honor Blackman, as far as I could find, though her and Patrick Macnee's rendition of "Kinky Boots" is at your disposal there.
