Attention: There is a prevalent email scam happening everywhere where the sender claims to have a password to a site and demands money in some form. Ignore it, do not respond and at most change passwords on any sites you frequent.

Sincerest apologies to everyone for the recent blackout. VEF and several of our sister forums had a major server malfunction. The database index is being rebuilt from scratch and may take at least several days to be fully restored. Expect major weirdness and lots of glitches in the meantime. Conversely let's point out sources which are largely unreliable. Like most everything else here a lot of this is highly subjective so let's not get too hung up on precise ranking but just treat this as an overall guide. I'll maintain a list in this post so what's posted here will be the prevailing opinion at the time. All subsequent posts in this thread will be suggestions and relevant discussion.
